Bushy carbine problem

I took the bushmaster pre-ban carbine out today. First time in six months. It would fire maybe two of three rounds and then it would shove the next cartridge straight into feed lip and push the bullet into the shell.

I changed mags (both GI. surplus 30 rounders)and it did it again. I changed to a thermold and it shot fine.

I would assume that it is a mag problem but, then again what else could be going on?
I don't get to shoot it much. These mags have been loaded for about 1 year with 20 rounds each.

They did fine before. Is leaving them loaded what may have messed them up?

Glad I didn't have to find out this in a situation where I might have needed it!!

Ps. Both of these mags have the black follower, should I change to green, or is that just some kinda hype?

I suspect that the issue is with the mags and dried up lube in them.

I'd clean out the mags and install Wolff extra-power springs. If they're 30-rd. mags, I'd install green followers. Should be good-to-go then.

I agree with nero. I was having some problems a year or so ago, and just went ahead and changed out the springs and black followers on all of my 30 rounders. No problems since.

Yep, just get some mag rebuild kits. They are pretty cheap.

I've been using DPMS rebuild kits and they work pretty good. They come with a magazine spring, green follower and new base plate.

This guy (http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=24&t=154541) has some really good prices on quality Mil-Spec green followers, and he also has a special "orange" follower made by the same company.

BTW, don't believe that all green followers are the same. They are NOT. I have purchased green followers from RGuns, Tapco, a gun show, and this guy. The ones from the gun show wouldn't keep the ammo in the mags... it kept spewing them out like a volcano! Then when comparing them side by side with my other ones, it was clear that they were "less defined". I don't have them anymore, cuz I trashed them, but I should have taken a picture first. None of the grooves, edges, corners, etc. were sharp or defined, they were rounded and almost "balooney" in appearance... like somebody took a good one and inflated or melted it.

your rounds could be longer than spec.
i had a gent load some bullets for me and they were a tad too long and did the same thing.
what ammo are you using?

Were the ones from RGuns ok?
I hope so, b/c I just got some the other day. Haven't had a chance to install them yet.
