I am looking for someone capable of machining two new hammers for my double barrel Lefever shotgun. I have one of the old ones out and can send it. I am not looking to spend alot. No one has any in stock anymore so I am left trying to make them. If anybody can help please let me know.

I was reading in a gunsmithing book, how you take a piece of steel (tool steel?) and trace the outline of the hammer. Drill the pivot hole first. Drill holes with a drill press around the shape, so that the holes connect. Grind it to fit. That is if it is just a basic flat hammer.

Dixie still lists some hammer blanks...unfinished and undrilled, but in a varitiety of sizes. Outer shaping is up to you...but the idea is that you drill them and fit them to the tumbler shank. Sounds esy...but the shape of the tumbler shank may make for some interesting filing.
IF you are lucky, and it's the right hammer, then it may be possible to modificy a percussion hammer to work.
It's not just about the reach to the firing pin...most of them have an inward bend of the hammer nose...and some are bent in more than others.
