It is now for sure between three 1911's for under $1,200. They are the Springfield Mil-spec stainless, a Smith and Wesson in a stainless or a Kimber stainless ll. I like the mil-spec for the simplicity and I like the Kimber because it is simple in design yet has a more modern look to it. Same goes for the Smith. I know Smith and Wesson has a life time warrenty but dose that go for Kimber and SA as well?

Went with the Smith. Nicer features and better trigger in my opnion (limited experience with SAs though in full disclosure). You might want to decide if tradition is important to you or not though - the external extractor and front cocking serrations are not universally welcomed in the 1911 fraternity after all.

I will say though my SW with both the above has been a completely reliable, stunningly accurate and well constructed gun from day one. It's not the same as your choice of course,m being a commander size and alloy frame, but I have seen several stainless full size SWs and they were all well finished and nicely put together. The adjustable sights on the model you are considering are a nice plus.

With $1200 to play with (I voted for the LB in the other thread :D ) I would look into the Springfield Armory TRP.

Under $1000 I'd go for the Kimber TLE II in Stainless.

TLE > a shiny custom II :neener:

TLE II Stainless > TLE > a shiny custom II

I'd go with the SA and then start modding it. With ~$600 for various parts and upgrades, you can definitely get exactly what you want in a 1911, all with traditional internal extractor. Second choice would be S&W (S&W customer service easily makes it the better choice IMHO).

Smith. Lots of gun for the money and I like the external extractor.

For 1200, get Ted Yost to build you a stainless *1.~Nathan

Instead of the Mil spec. Get the loaded stainless full size and keep the change for ammo and range time.

this is just a guess but i'm guessing you mean less than 1200 retail. if that's not what you meant, buds gunshop has the sw1911 with crimson trace grips. it'd be a fun toy to play with for you and your cat, all for approximately 880 shipped. anyway, can't really vote in this poll b/c i have none of the above, but i'm excitedly waiting on the sw1911 :)
