Washington, Late May early June?

I know, a little premature but I am completely excited.:D

I was just up at my place for the first time since the last weekend of West side Elk (4 months:( ) and it got me to thinking about a get together again.

Location: LT Murray area about 25 minutes from Ellensburg. Centrally located for both sides of the state. So however long it takes you to get to E-burg add 25 minutes.

Scenerio, this is a camp out so I would like it to be pot luck once we get a close enough number we can organize. No power or water but plenty of firewood. I have a dry cabin on the place with bbq's, butane, propane etc...

The property is at almost 4,000 feet, it is drive in accessible, 4wd not necessary but clearance is. There can be some pretty nasty potholes and ruts (the last 3 miles) especially after the spring thaw.

I will be up there all weekend from Friday afternoon till Sunday afternoon on whatever weekend is chosen. As I get responses we can get more detailed and pass along more information. Families are completely welcome, there is room to park RV's (the Elk camps drive them in), room to roam, etc... space is not the issue and there is miles of room to go exploring.

Let me know your thoughts on a date. I know it is early but last time I tried peoples calenders were full, etc... so why not start early.

Best regards, Polish

Sounds like fun to me. The boy and I will come for sure. The wife and girl are maybe. Only June 14-16 are out for me. :)

Nice pic, reminds me of where I grew up, in central British Columbia.

Have you settled on a final date yet?

An excellent time of year in Central Washington. Sounds great! I should be able to get a couple days off around then ...

Note to Polishrifleman: If you can edit title thread to have "Washington" as the first word, the state name will show in the "Last Post" window on the main page ... (right now, all you will see is the "Late May early June ..." portion).

Thanks for the info. Thread title changed. No specific date yet still looking for more potential input. I will finalize the date depending on feedback at the first part of April. I am going to be in and out until the end of the month so I will give this two more weeks to run to see what if any response we get.

Campout, potluck, no power, firewood, bbq's...

And LT Murray on Manashtash is AWESOME.
Big open views of Rainier & the northern Cascades.

Don't know if I can make it up that far (from OR) then. (Even though I've got close friends in Ellensburg that I haven't seen in several years, I'm a new business owner skirting the financial edge, and that's a bit early for 'time off' for me.)

But I'll be reading, and sorely tempted...and at least, know that I'll be there in spirit.

I'm definitely interested. School isn't out until mid-June, but that sounds close enough for me to be able to make a weekend. :D

I'm in if we're talking weekend, possibly still if it's a weekday. I'm flexible on dates, and I'll probably still have guns then (planning a selloff to fun other things).

It is definately a weekend. I will be up there late afternoon on a Friday, firm date to be set around April 1 and leaving on Sunday late afternoon early evening.

This can be a family outing. I am close to the LT, National Forest, alpine lakes N and S forks of the Manastash etc... Shoot and BS a couple hours scout, hike, etc... a couple more, eat, drink, be merry, light a big fire who knows for the rest of the time. Kind of like an open house in the woods. Plenty of flat ground to pitch a tent or park the RV, I have the outhouse for comfort issues and we can use the cabin area as the main meeting area.

I have a shooting area up on a ridge into a hillside, all camping areas are down hill and behind. I have 10yd and 100yd ranges measured out but we can go further if needed. If you Elk hunt up in the area it will be a great time to go and see the landscape in a different light.

Thanks and keep posting.

Need a date. All I have to do is put in for leave. If the wife don't go I may be able to play host. 26' travel trailer, 3 bunks, shower, galley, the usual.

Sounds like a blast (no pun intended):p

Count me in, I've got a wedding to attend in June but other than that I am pretty open.

If I have the time and money(gas, ammo, etc.) count me and my wife in. For sat/Sun anyway, as my mother works during the week and will need to babysit the infant.

So that's 25 minutes south(ish) of Ellensburg?

Dammit, I'm at the Firing Center right now, but Uncle Sam will have me somewhere else in late spring.

25 minutes from E-burg. Slightly South primarily West. 10mi due South of the Indian John Rest area off I-90.

You know I'm in.

I'm still trying to get up there to hunt coyotes but the snow keeps me here. I'll probably try again in a few weeks when the calves start showing up. Perhaps we can join forces for a day hunt. PM me if you're interested. (I supose that goes for anybody)

How many folks are bringing kids and what ages?

I'd like to bring my son, but I just want to make sure there's not gonna be any B.S. I know that this is unlikely given that we're all on "the high road" but my son is too important to me to take any chances.

I always read about what some idiots do out camping what with the beer and guns pointing at everyone's guts.

Last time I was at the place it was great fun and my son had a really good time. Polishrifleman and his brother and I kept the goofing off and shooting seperate, and everyone was most concerned with the kids first.

Polishrifleman is out of town till next week, so we'll see what he says. I'm keen to read anyone else's thoughts on this. :)

I would not expect any BS, judging from having "met" you guys on this forum. If you need some encouragement to bring him along, take a look at these from our first shootout up in Pullman.

I concur with Pops, Carnaby. I'd have no reservations about bringing my children and having them present around any of the Northwestern THR folks I've met so far. All have been polite, respectful, fun to shoot with, great to talk with, and extremely safety-minded (not to mention pretty good cooks).

It's nice to read that NW THR events have been so successful and safe in the past. The idea of separating "goofing off" and shooting makes perfect sense.

I'd say that everyone who comes to the camp should be cordially reminded of a minimal rule set (given that the participants may know each other from online but not in person). I think it's always a good idea to go over basic safety rules up front rather than as an after thought.

Unfortunately, I won't make it up for this one. The remodel of my business has already eaten my financial lunch, and a major equipment failure last night sealed my fate for several months. No time off for Nematocyst. :(

Not only is it reassuring to hear about the kids, but I am also opening up my cabin (term used loosly:D ) land etc... for this and appreciate the comments. As mentioned before I have set up an MSN group to discuss more detail off the forum to keep the thread clear, so hopefully we will see some of you over there.

I opened my fat mouth over on another forum, where I mod a little, and we might have a couple of fellows from there ask for invitations. I have already cleared with Polish and they will contact him for invites, if they can make it. One of them, Ysacres, hosted the NW shoots we had for the other forum. Good guys, both.

I would love to come! May is probably a no-can, but the early part of June might work. This would be great, because I want to take my wife Mulie hunting over there...either LT Murray, Oak Creek or Wenas...so, it might scare her(and me) into better shape if she sees the hills.
