Greets folks!
The gun club I'm joining has a 100 yard range. I'd like to find longer ranges to shoot at as I progress (someday I'd like to shoot 1000 yard). Does anyone know of a source for info on 'long range' (longer than standard 100 yard) rifle ranges in Florida (preferably central Florida)?

Port Malabar. Not too far from you. I've been told they have rifle up to 600 yds. They have all sorts of other cool stuff too.

Wyoming Antelope Club in Largo is 100yds IIRC.

Hernando Sportsmans Club has a 200yd line.

Manatee Gun Club has a range with 100-500, and a 700yd gong, but that's the closest to you I know of with past 200 yds.

I have no idea if the Ocala Public Shooting Range has more than a 100yd line, you might call them.

Coolness, thanks! I called Ocala; their range is 100 yard. Hernando is a slick looking range with the full auto stuff going on. :) Manatee Gun Club now has a 1000 yard range.

I also updated my original post to a bit more specific than 'Florida'. :banghead: :p

For long range, Manatee is your best bet. It is pretty much the only range in the entire area where you can shoot those distances. I say that, because I'm not sure if there are any others, but I haven't heard of any - so I doubt they exist.

Wyoming is a nice range. Nice benches, bags, rests...good facility. One of the best in my opinion --- BUT, and this is a big but - there is no rapid fire allowed. You cannot even load a centerfire autoloader more than 1 round at a time. Only guns you can load up the mags on are pistols and rimfire rifles. 100 yards max.

Hernando is cool. They are much more friendly to the military-style rifle rapid fire thing over there. That's the place to go if you want to blast away with an AK or an AR or whatever you enjoy. Rapid fire is practically encouraged (just keep your muzzle on target). 200 yards max.

Each of these are a bit away from you. In Lakeland there is the Lakeland club, then there is Tenoroc, but that's 100yards IIRC. There's a 3rd range in Lakeland, can't remember the name, I think it is a private club though. Anyhow, there's 3 outdoor rifle ranges in that area that I know of.

Edited to add:

Hate to link another forum, but this is a great reference to ranges in Florida (huge list of them)--

Don't Tread On Me: Thanks kindly for the info! I'll check out that AR15 link. I've spend many an afternoon at Tenoroc, but only for pistol. I've since moved to LRPC (http://www.lrpc.org) as they're cheaper ($175 a year instead of $10 per visit for Tenoroc, with better facilities, trap, skeet, etc).

hernando is a nice range and they frequently (normally sundays) have various kind of matchs as well as special events every so often like a machine gun shoot.

They are open tues-fri 9-2 and sat & sun 9-3 and tuesday nights but off the top of my head I forget the time, this is for the open range btw which has 7, 25, 50, and 100 meter shooting stations with about 8 or 9 lanes per station.

The 200 meter range I'm not sure what days that is open but if you check their calander on the website they list out what is open that day and what hours. They also have archery and different shotgun ranges for trap and such.

And its 10 a day for the open range, don't use the others so Im not sure what they charge but charges are for the range, not for the entire place. 1 if you are a member.

And as said above they are friendly to most things, just no targets but paper (least to my knowlage but I've asked a got a no)

I just discovered this page which may help:

http://wheretoshoot.org

They have a searchable list by zip code, area code, facilities, etc that seems to be pretty good. Figured I'd pass it along. :)

I have shot at the hernando sportsmans club several times and always had a great time .People are real freindly ,range is really nice they also have a steel sillouhete range there. The only rule they had for full auto was not to shoot full auto from the hip.

yeah from the hip is a no no, and if you do something wrong they WILL yell at you....Harry esspecialy, Harry is hilarious :D

Luckily, there is very little you can do there that is wrong aside from basic range safty rules and following the rules durring hot and cold lines.

I'll have to give Hernando a shot some time, but it is a haul from home. With that http://wheretoshoot.org link I found Central Florida Rifle & Pistol Club (http://www.cfrpc.com). They're much closer and they have a 300 yard rifle range. :) My wife and I visited them last weekend to watch some cowboy action shooting. So many shooting sports, so little time. :p
