I can't find any Lake City .308 Brass for a decent price anywhere right now.

I have a decent amount of Winchester. (150-200pcs)

I have a small amount of Federal. (50pcs)

I have about 150pcs of random range pickup boxer primed stuff (Remington, PMC, mixed LC, milsurp boxerprimed)

I have found some IMI ammunition loaded with 150gr FMJ at about $7.75/20 rds and was thinking of buying a hundred rounds or so to plink with and then collect the brass. That's cheaper than Federal American Eagle FMJ at $10/20.

Is IMI brass good stuff? Who here uses it?

I know a lot of people who use new IMI brass in .223 to load their 600 yard line competition loads for High Power. I don't see any reason where their .308 caliber brass would be any less well made.

Hope this helps,

Dave

I like IMI brass, been shooting it since the mid 80's and reloading it without incidend, but all of that has been in 223. I quit buying IMI ammo in the early to mid 90's cause I was buying Winchester Q3131, now isn't that irony that Winchester outsources their Q3131 to IMI these days :p

I've loaded IMI brass in .223, .308, 7.62x39, 9mm & .45. I can't say enough good things about it. The brass is consistent and is durable as can be. Also, the WWB .223 (Q3131A) is the most accurate factory ammo (non-match) that I've ever shot.

My only problem is that you apparently can't get new .308 IMI cases. If anyone knows a source, please let me know.

Make sure it is boxer primed. I have seen it come both ways.

I would caution your use of range pick up brass! If you do not know the history, leave it lay!

IMI would be my choice for M1A or other semi auto use. It is is hearty brass. Pull down Mil Brass from some place like www.gibrass.com is another good option.

But, if you are loading for either bolt or gas guns stay away from Federal brass. It just does not not have good case life! Primer pocket expansion after a few firing renders the case useless.

Win or once fired BHA bras is great choice for reloading for accuracy and reasonable case life!

Laupa is the best! I have 12 reloads on one lot of brass fired in a bolt gun!

The reputation on the firing line is that IMI is on par with LC brass. The Federal brass probably won't last very long (3 reloads or so).

I've gotten great things from gibrass.com

If it's been fired through a machinegun, I would stay away from it.

Thanks, guys...

I decided to stay away from IMI/LC brass for now, as I have over 300 pieces of perfectly good Winchester brass.

Once I use all that up, I will experiment with IMI or LC.
