I have been considering buying at least one steel IPSC target and at least one standard cardboard target stand for range use. I have been neglecting my G19 and the skills I have aquired during two pistol course last year and need some motivation to get out with the glock and rehone my technique. I want to take the advanced course in the summer and want to get back on the mode of that type of shooting. My only concern where to use those types of targets. My range might have a ???? fit of they saw me shooting steel there.

They will likely kick you out for it. For a good reason too - who wants a ricochet hitting them in the face? Pistol distances are simply too small for safe shooting of hard targets, IMO.

Pistol distances are simply too small for safe shooting of hard targets, IMO. This is totally untrue. Every USPSA match I've ever been to has included shooting steel targets at pistol distances.

I wouldn't practice retention shooting against a steel target, but for normal everyday 7-10yd. shooting, a properly made steel target is totally safe.

Without getting a ricochet back at me. Of course, I used cast 200gr SWC bullets, but USPSA/IPSC/IDPA shooters know enough to use bullets that won't harm the steel target, and won't come back at the shooter from combat distances.
