This may be non-starter, but I had this idea of modified nipples that take small pistol primers instead of caps:confused:
Is this viable for those in the know?
Or has it already been done??
There are companies over here in the UK that will make you a replacement cylinder that uses 209 primers but they cost about £400($700):what: just swapping out the nipple seems like the cheaper option.
Any thoughts?

i think using 209 primers gives too much ignition for such a small load. if i'm right the 209 primers used for the inline muzzleloaders actually propels the load before actually igniting the powder.

One may already purchase from Dixie Gun Works a nipple that takes small pistol or rifle primer, has a coil spring affair to keep the primer in place.
Local black powder smith makes these in stainless for both flangeless musket caps and primers, as well, modifies the Remington, Rogers&Spencer and Ruger Old Army to a floating firing pin or flat face striker so these do not stick into the hammer cut out in frame, gets rid of high pressure load blow back too!
In short, its been done!

Oh well, looks like Dixie will be getting an order from me then.
