The best way for me to carry my CCW is in my front pocket. I currently carry a S&W J-frame in a DeSantis holster, although I am thinking about getting a 9mm auto to pocket carry as well.

How many of you use "pocket carry" as your primary method of CCW?

Also, if you do pocket carry, what handgun do you pocket carry, and what brand of pocket holster do you use?

I wear jeans and a revolver is too big for my pockets. I do carry a Grendel P12 in a home made "wallet" holster in a rear jeans pocket. Looks like a wallet, until I flip the cover flap out of the way and grab the gun. Neat set up, but I much prefer carrying my Kel Tec IWB in a Mitch Rosen Workman rig. Just that I can't do that at the shop where I work, so I carry the .380.

I always have a NAA .22 in a "holster grip" in my front pocket because it takes up no more room than a pocket knife.

A Kel Tec 32 or 380 in holsters I made.

If the new Kel Tec 9mm fits my pockets I'll probably carry it.

If my pockets were large enough I'd carry a Crimson Trace equipped S&W J Frame.

Pocket carry is how my 642 finds use. I wouldn't call it my primary carry method though; it's mostly for when my wardrobe requirements don't allow IWB carry of my 1911.

I carry a Taurus 85 Ultralight in a Galco holster in my front pocket.
Some of my jeans pockets aren't deep enough (butt sticks out), but I can normally get around that by wearing a tee shirt out. The Galco has a squared off bottom to the holster. I've read a lot about the Mikas holsters more rounded bottom, so I think I'll try one of those out.

I must admit I do prefer carrying a Glock 19 in a belt holster, but I've got to dress around that...so, that little Taurus normally is the one that goes out with Daddy.

I often carry a Smith M649 or an M38 in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster.

I also use a Wild Bill's leather pocket holster in a coat pocket. It's too big for my pants pockets, but works well in a coat.

KT P32 in Uncle Mikes for years.

Just got a P-ll and its in my pocket in full cut jeans as I write.(just testing) It prints a little. If I put a handkerchief to the outside it helps. No holster, just pocket. But I will more than likely stay with the P-32 as it's just natural as my wallet & keys.;)

Boy, I like this P-11 and it's good to shoot 9MM again after years of magnums and the 40 S&W KT, Glocks etc. I have a little Fobus Paddle that it rides in for field duty and that's a nice package too.

642 became safe queen 10 years ago or so, when the little NAA 22 mags came out.

They are in the safe now since the P32 came along. I still like that little 642 and it will never go away. But there are other snubs in front of it with higher power and more shots.:)

For the biggest pockets, a Taurus PT145 in a Mika holster. For average pockets, either Kahr PM9, Charter Undercover .38 or Taurus 905IB 9mm, all in Mikas. Where only the smallest will fit, a Keltec P3AT in an Uncle Mike's.

Variety is the spice of life.

When I pocket carry it is mostly a S&W 642 in an Uncle mikes pocket holster size #3. Some times when I wear my 5.11 paints the pockets is big enough I can pocket carry my GLOCK 23 in a cheap nylon holster that I stripped down just for pocket carry. I aslo have a Taurus PT-25 I carry in a stripped down Uncle Mikes IWB holster in my pocket, just what ever I feel for that day.

I carry a Taurus 650 CIA .357 Magnum, blue steel, 24 ounces in an Uncle Mikes pocket holster.

Soon I'll add a Taurus Protector .357 magnum, stainless steel, 24 ounces and a Mika holster to the ensamble....

Sometimes I carry a Glock 19 IWB.

Often I carry the Glock 19 or 26 AND my Taurus revolver....one IWB behind the hip and Taurus in front pocket.

Fastest way to reload? Have a second gun.

340PD in either an Uncle Mike's pocket holster or a Don Hume pocket holster, either front or rear pocket, depending on pants and possibly cover garment. I prefer OWB in a pancake holster, and carry that way when I can; but the pocket is easier to conceal in more situations and more convenient as well.

I prefer to carry IWB - then it's a 3" 1911. But I pocket carry much more often. I just got a 342 to replace my bobbed M37. I will be experimenting with some new pocket holsters. Current is a Galco leather 'rough-out' model (#PHI58).

I switch between a S&W 642 in a Uncle Mike's #3 pocket Holster and a Kahr PM9 that also fits in the same Uncle Mike's #3. The only thing though is if you us the PM9, I would stay away from the Pearce pinky extensions. I put one on my PM9 mag and I think it patterns more that way. I took it off and it conceals much better.

A must have though for the 642 is a nice set of Crimson Trace grips. Very nice for point shooting if you don't have enough time to aim.

I'm no expert in most firearms discussions but I am a self-proclaimed expert in pocket carry in that I have never carried any other way.

A partial list of what I have carried:

NAA mini revolver, .22 LR
Beretta Mod 21 Bobcat, .22 LR
Kel-Tec P11, 9 mm
Taurus Mod 85 ultralite, .38 spcl
Kel-Tec P32, .32 auto
Smith and Wesson mod 638 Bodyguard, .38 spcl
Taurus Mod 605, .357 mag
NAA mini revolver, .22 mag
Smith and Wesson Mod 340SC, .357 mag
Kel-Tec P-3AT, .380 auto

Notes: Of the above group, the P11 was the most difficult to pocket-carry; the best of the bunch as far as power-to-weight ratio was the Smith 340SC. The most easy-to-conceal and the one that goes where no other goes is my .22 mag NAA mini-revolver. Probably my all-around favorite was the Kel-Tec P-3AT but I could not hit the side of a barn with it!

Holsters? For pocket carry, lighter, thinner, and flexible is my preference. I have an Uncle Mike's size 1 and 3. I also have a DeSantis Nemesis which is excellent.

I normally wear Docker-style pleated front pants which makes concealment a dream, especially with a small revolver. With Jeans, I stick with the .22 mag mini.

I carry my Kel Tec P11 in the pocket sometimes. Use an Uncle Mike's #3. Usually it's OWB or coat pocket. My P3AT is my preferred pocket carry but it's in rehab right now down in Florida at the KT factory being taught how to operate like a gun is supposed to operate.
Everything else I have is too big for pants pocket carry so they do OWB or fanny pack

99% of the time, my pocket carry is my Taurus PT-145, in an Uncle Mikes Pocket Holster. It fits most of my right front pant pockets quite well. When I can't carry the Taurus, because of smaller pockets, I carry my Kel-Tec P11 in 9mm.

In the past I have carried......

SW 38
Kel-Tec P32/P3AT/P11
Glock 27
Glock 19 (yep, it actually worked pretty well in a deep BDU pocket)
Glock 30

I will likely get another P3AT or their new single stack 9mm to serve as a back up to the 642

Since I don't have my carry permit (yet) I don't pocket carry. But if I did choose to on occasion carry it is a 442 in a Uncle Mike's pocket holster in right front pants pocket. I often have it with me when I am doing a job in an undesireable location that makes me nervous situationally. Even if I did have the permit, I don't intend to carry all the time any way. The permit is mostly to allow me to have a loaded gun legally inside the vehicle. The permit essentially provides legal options from my perspective.

I guess I buck a lot of the pocket carry trends, inasmuch as I carry an older S&W Model 60 with the pinned barrel, firing pin on the hammer, and service grips. (Pictures here (http://how-i-did-it.org/img/snubby/angle.jpg) and here (http://how-i-did-it.org/img/snubby/side.jpg); I've added a Tyler grip adaptor since these photos were taken.)

Yes, it's a revolver with an exposed hammer weighing around 23 oz. fully loaded with holster. The opinions expressed in this thread seem to paint that as the antithesis of the pocket gun, but I think a lot of people are missing out. Although the cylinder on revolvers makes the widest point much wider than many pocket autos, if the width is averaged over the length and height of hte gun, they come out to be far thinner on the whole. The smaller grips and more rounded countours make snubbies disappear far more readily in the pocket. I was expecting to have to put up with the weight increase, but the fact that snubbies have most of their weight in the cylinder, not the grips, causes the gun to balance along the front seam of the pocket, minimizing flop and making it feel lighter. But at the range, that extra weight makes the gun a joy to shoot. (A good thing, too, since learning to shoot a snub accurately is going to take some practice.) And the hammer? An Uncle Mike's sidekick keeps it covered while in the pocket, and the way I draw it keeps the spur well clear of the seams even if I forget to cover it with my thumb.

Naturally, all of the above is one man's (long-winded) opinion. I love threads like these because it's always interesting to learn what others are carrying and why.

Wow! you weren't kidding. You can average a baseball out to be thinner than a Glock too but I still think its going to look like you have something strange in your pocket. Now if you have pockets the size of steamer trunks, ignore my post.

Here's been my test for 20 years......find a full length mirror. Fill your pockets, waste band, jackets, no matter. Walk toward the mirror and do all kinds of bending and moves to watch if you print or reveal the firearm. Now be honest. If you can see the print....Others can too.

And folks, listen...A lot of CCW's are beginning to show up and a lot of awareness is coming from the non gun groups. Be careful and be safe. NO Matter what you carry.....;)
