I've seen several posts knocking Wolf ammo. What do you use for your 7.62 x 39 plinking ammo? This will be for a Romanian AK-47 when i get one shortly.

Wolf is fine for the Romanian. It will eat all you can give it with no problems. Some people do not like the laquer coating on the casings as it can stick to the chamber due to heat.

I have had no problems with Wolf ammo in my SAR-1 after thousands of rounds. It's cheap and plentiful. Have fun!

Ditto to Chaz's comments...I haven't owned an SAR-1 for very long (since last November) but all I've fed it thus far is Wolf FMJ and I have had no malfunctions or problems of any kind. I have a mix of Romanian, Hungarian, and even Chinese magazines and the Wolf ammo has fed and functioned 100% of the time.

I'm close to putting the 500th round of Wolf through my Norinco SKS, I haven't had a lick of trouble from it.

7.62x39 and 7.62x54 are the only calibers I'd dare buy that's Wolf, although I'm hearing good things of their .22LR, that's supposedly made in Germany.

I've also been using wolf in my SAR-1, never had a problem, it's not as accurate as the winchester stuff that I shoot on occasion

I use Wolf in my Chi-Com SKS 90% of the time. Barnaul is supposedly better at about the same price, but I can't comment on its performance.

Commie guns designed for commie ammo. I use Wolf, Barnaul, Silver Bear etc. in my SKS and VEPR.

I will not use the stuff in my other firearms though.

I have heard complaints about Wolf .223 sticking is AR chambers. It runs fine in my SAR-3. I believe the AR chamber is tighter. Wolf is the least accurate ammo I use, though. S&B and PMP cost more, but group size is about half.

Wolf 9mm DOES stick in my 9mm Hi Power, and my P-11. I refuse to use the 9mm Wolf again.

I've gone through 2000 rounds of Wolf and 1000 rounds of Barnaul in my Vepr. The Wolf worked fine.

the russian ammo, in russian calibres, runs fine in former eastern bloc firearms.

most complaints i have heard have to do with the 5.56x45mm in the ar and mini 14. i guess that might have somthing to do the straight walled cases verses the 7.62x39mm and 5.45x39mm tapered cases.

No failures of any type through, roughly 2K of Wolf.

But I agree that Conblock ammo should be used in Comblock weapons.

Wolf's the only thing I've run thru my SKS for the last couple of years. Sure, it's dirty but it feeds good!

I've had problems with Wolf in my Mini 30. The firing pin doesn't strike as hard as a comblock gun, so sometimes the wolf doesn't fire. I've read others have had similar problems.
In other words, as several folks have said, "Comblock gun and Comblock ammo go fine together!"

The Wolf will work well in your Romanian. I've also shot a lot of Barnaul (the blue box with the cowboy) soft points through mine and it's been slightly less reliable.

I've run wolf .223 through my mini to the exclusion of all other brands for about a year now and haven't had a malfunction of any kind, problems with cases gluing themselves to the chamber or anything else.

Wolf certainly uses different components to load .223 and 7.62x39. The primers may be harder on the 7.62x39.
I've shot ammo out of the same box, side-by-side with an SKS & AK. When I look at the spent "brass", the dents caused by my Mini 30's firing pin look relatively anemic compared to the commie gun ones. I remember reading this from other Mini 30 owners somewhere.
The wolf ammo shoots fine, no jamming or chamber gooping. It just doesn't always fire. Usually, I just feed it in again and bang it goes. Clearly, the problem isn't the ammo.

I use the copper jacketed Wolf, it only costs a few dollars more but is much easier on the barrel.

My Yugo SKS will eat anything anyway, and the low price of 7.62x39 when shipped in bulk means I shoot it almost as much as my .22.

Can't speak for the reliability or such, but all I know is that once I have an AK clone, I'll be using plenty of Wolf. Cheap, and according to everyone, it works fine in AKs and SKSs. Don't use it in a target gun, or for hunting, though,

Wolf is all I use in my SAR-1 and Norinco SKS. The only problem I've had was an ejecting round got flipped over somehow and stuck behind the bar above the trigger area. It was without a doubt the strangest malfunction I've seen.

A couple of weeks ago at the Indy 1500 show (Indianapolis) there was Wolf ammo, 7.62 x 39 in 122 gr. HP with POLYMER COATING. The vendor had samples sitting out and commented that it is coming out to replace the lacquer case stuff. The case was a dull gray compared to the shiny brass color of the lacquer stuff. And best of all the price was $39.95 plus tax for 500!

I've had jamming with both the Chicom and Russky lacquered steel-cased ammo in my Finnish Valmet 62s, especially as it begins to heat up.

However, it shot fine in my early Maadi AK, and both ChiCom & Yugo SKSs. I note that all of us that have experienced problems with sticking, have indicated it was in firearms that do not have hard-chromed chambers and bores, e.g. VALMET, Colt, Ruger & etc. I suspect the special coating is less prone to being adhered to by hot lacquer.

On the otherhand, the copperwashed steel cases which I've used, have never failed.

Wolf smells like egg-farts. But my Romanian SKS really likes the taste. I would be interested; however, in exploring other brands to see how it compares for accuracy.
