I've heard there's a west-Canadian separatist movement/party.
What's their stance on gun control?

Freedom all the way, baby :) I'm from BC myself, and would move back in a moment if I thought they were actually going to separate. It's a good idea, but hasn't really caught on yet, for some reason. On the other hand, the movement HAS drawn a couple of high-profile quacks, who don't do much for it, except to give other people the idea that western separatists are Nazis, or wife-beaters, or colonists from Venus, etc.

I spent 1974-1980 in Ottawa, Ontario. While I was there, Rene Levesque (as head of the Quebecois Separatists) was really stirring the pot-trying his best to push Quebec to separate from Canada. He really got the Frenchmen jacked up! The English Canadians from Ontario would become livid, and the Western Canadians? They'd usually just shrug it off with "Screw 'em (the French)...let 'em leave. We've got all the oil!" :p

I guess that separatism idea has gained some ground in the West. geegee

I think that their general stance is pro gun.
Mostly I expecpt that it has to do with not wanting a bunch of liberals in the other end of the country telling them how to live.

On 2/22/03 Larry Pratt of Gunowners of America interviewed Link Byfield, a canadian journalist, on "Live Fire" about this very issue. The subject of the interview was about Albertans wanting to secede from the Canadian Federal govt. and either become a part of the U.S. or an independent nation. Gun ownership was a priority issue.
