Anybody have one of these? I lack a .22 handgun. While I specifically don't feel any screaming need to have one, it would come in handy for teaching others who are new to shooting. I like the SP101 because it's small, and light, good for young folks or petite women, or anyone that might be intimidated by a larger gun. It'd also be easier for someone with smaller hands to get a grip on it.
It has a 4" barrel and adjustable sights. Anybody have one? How are they?

My SP-101 in .22 LR has a small problem.
My wife adopted it. She even likes the factory grips.
It shoots Remington Vipers well. I suspect a .357 version in 3" is in the future, once I know if I have one.

Who still misses his Ruger MKI standards. The one I lost in the Brazos river and the one I traded for a T-514..

Hi Jeff, welcome to THR!
NC, I have one for that very purpose. It's (IMHO) only good for that role. Not sure what the weight is 'zactly, but it's stout with the 4 inch barrel. Mine has the white outline rear sight, plain front sight. :uhoh: Not a good combination in my opinion.
Trigger is so-so, accuracy is OK, nothing to write home about.
On mine, the only adjustmentis for windage.
If you can get one for a great price, go for it. For something a bit better for GP, I'd look at S&W. At the time I was boycotting S&W.

Every new smith I've seen lately has been outrageously priced. I might be able to find something used, but it not I'll go with the Ruger.

I've got an SP101 in .22LR with the 2.25" barrel (however, they don't offer that barrel length anymore). I actually got it as a cheap practice ammo understudy for the .357 model (a nearly exact twin) - a role for which it is very well suited. I'm extreamly pleased with it. Much more accurate than I had expected. Completely reliable and nothing quirky about fit, finish or operation.
The only direct competator I'm aware of is the Taurus Model 94. I think the Ruger is much better though. The S&W .22's all seem to be too big & heavy or too small & light for what I was interested in. All S&W's are definatly VERY expensive new. But, if you find one you like - and don't mind paying premium prices, the S&W .22's are very nice guns.

The SP-101 .22 cal. is a nice revolver, but for the purpose stated above, I like a S&W model 34 blue 4 inch or model 63 SS 4 inch. Reason being; the 4 inch barrel has a longer sight radius and is a little easier for a new shooter to hit with. You should be able to find a used one in good shape for not too much money.

The .22LR SP101 has a 4" barrel and adjustable sights, so it's cool. It's not like a snubby with a groove sight or anything, it's just on the same frame as their snubbies.

NC, A couple months ago I picked up a Taurus 94 2” as an understudy for my Ruger Sp101 3” .357. The steel model is about the same weight as the Ruger and it has adjustable rear sight. The reasons I didn’t get the Ruger was bbl length, capacity (9 vs. 6) and price. I had terrible luck with a Taurus PT-22 and was leery of buying another and having to deal again with Taurus Cust. Serv so I purchased it through Davidsons and if I do have a problem with it Davidsons will replace it. So far I’ve put a couple hundred rounds through it and it is really been dependable and accurate.
