Which do you use to shoot? Why? What are the benefits of each?

I use the notch; a bit more stable for me- more leverage = less force = less wavering.

i find if its a heavier trigger pull, using the notch tends for me to push the gun sideways less. also on really thick triggers i use the notch, not sure why but i push if i dont.
use the tip for all rifle work, just feels more comfortable for me.

Tip on a rifle, Notch on a pistol.

When I was a kid, I was taught to squeeze (they said squeeze not press in those days) a rifle trigger with the finger tip.
After several decades of not shooting anything, I am learning shotguns. When gunning for flying targets I follow the advice of “treat the trigger like a red headed step child; slap that sucker.” I put my finger in the trigger guard as I’m swinging up from behind the target and yank the trigger as soon as I think I have the correct lead. I don’t even know what part of my finger is on the trigger.
The few times I’m been shooting stationary land targets with buckshot and slugs, I’ve experimented with finger tip and first notch, on the middle and the end of the trigger. Don’t know yet which is best for me.

I use the tip on everything, even revolvers.

Depends on the gun. All longguns get the tip. Handguns with heavier triggers get the notch.
