New Survival and Preparedness Forum (yes, it's gun related)

A little while back I was reading over a thread in the Strategy and Tactics forum where Jeff White asked us all to get back to the primary mission of The High Road and refrain from discussing SHTF type scenarios. I realize that there are a couple of valid reasons for this, one of them being the desire to avoid coming off as wild-eyed "survivalists". However, I still felt at the time that discussing the topic was an important and necessary component to being a responsible human being, firearm owner or not. It is an increasing possibility that we will be faced with another natural disaster, terrorist attack, civil unrest or general situation of chaos in the near future.

I respect the mission of The High Road and I agree, based on that narrow mission statement, perhaps discussions such as these are not meant for THR. After reading that thread and some discussion on other sites and groups, I began to construct a new forum for discussion about such scenarios and how to plan for them (i.e., where to go, how to get there, what gear to take, how to defend yourself etc...). I too would prefer to avoid being labeled as the stereotypical "survivalist", at least in the mainstream meaning of the term. With all that I have seen in this country over the past ten years, I feel these discussions are very necessary and very important so I created a place to have them. We have room for plenty of firearms discussion, but more of how they apply in a disaster or survival situation than the technical and civil liberty issues like we discuss on THR.

So where do you come in? Well, this is entirely up to you, all that I ask is that you check the place out, consider joining and helping to build a nice, respectful community to partake in the responsible discussion of such topics.

It's completely up to you, feel free to contact me if you have any questions. This is not a financial thing or a scam, feel free to check me out or ask as many questions as you like, I’ve been on THR for a while now. We already have a few THR folks posting and quite a few lurking right now, so stop on by and say hey.

NearDeathExperiments.com Mission Statement:

Our goal here is to promote responsible discussion and enlightenment on survival preparations in a friendly, fun and educational atmosphere. We hope to build the camaraderie that such sites as www.thehighroad.org have made famous among firearms enthusiasts. We do realize that the kinds of topics that we promote here can often result in one being labeled negatively as a "survivalist". However, regardless of the stereotypes that we may be insulted with or the social stigma that may result, we still feel that at this particular time in our history these discussions are very important and a very necessary component to being a responsible human being. With that in mind, it is important to strive to take these topics as seriously as we can and make sure we act with honor, integrity and respect.

What we are is a group of people that take personal responsibility for our own progress and survival. We will not be waiting for the government teat to sustain us nor will we be waiting for the National Guard or the FEMA trucks to arrive. No, we will boldly go out and do as we must to survive and also to help others if we can. What we are not is bent on violently overthrowing the government, we are not overweight recluses hiding out in the hills of Montana caching machine guns and explosives in preparations for the rebellion; and as such, we will not tolerate discussion that moves in that direction. While I personally do believe that we do have many serious problems within our government and that our rights, particularly our Second and Fourth Amendment rights, are being encroached upon every day, this is not the place to discuss such topics. I'm a normal guy. I have a nice job, a family, friends, a wonderful woman and I pay my taxes, I’m not out to take on the world, I simply want to survive it well enough to make it back home every night to enjoy the things I hold dear.

Make no mistake, impending doom is not on our doorstep and we won't engage in fear mongering here just to turn up the popularity and acceptance of our discussions, but the precursors for some serious situations are all warmed up and just waiting for the right time to blow up in our collective faces. It is an increasing possibility that we will be faced with another natural disaster, terrorist attack, civil unrest or general situation of chaos in the near future.

So where do you come in? Well, this is entirely up to you. Stop by, infect us with your wisdom or glean countless tidbits of intelligence from some of our more knowledgeable members. What you get from this site, and what you put in is in your hands, all that we ask is that whatever you do, you act with honor, integrity and respect and strive to improve the quality of information that every member has at their disposal while spending time here with us.

Sincerely,
NineseveN and the NearDeathExperiments.com Staff

P.S. I don't think the MODs or THR staff would have an issue with my posting this here as it is not a competing forum and I plan to retain membership and post often here. I also asked Mal H first. :neener:

Hope to see you there.

Peace.

Two things strike me.

1) What do those characters in the arms of the biohazard symbol mean?
2) I hate forums that require you to either click a frontpage or type in a long funky address. Any plans to change?

Those "characters" in the biohazard symbol are the letters N, D, and E.....initials for Near Death Experience. I maybe wrong, as I didn't make the site, but I believe it's a very good assumption on my part.

1. The characters are N, D and E. The initials.
2. No plans to change as the front end will be beefed up for other content. If you want to go directly to the forums, http://www.neardeathexperiments.com/smf/

Oops, loki.fish seems to have beat me to it.

As a newly regstered member, there are some restrictions, but you can find the option under your PROFILE - FORUM PROFILE INFORMATION. Until you have about 50 posts, you can only select the generic avatars that we have stored locally. At 50 posts, you can link to your own remote avatar. :)

Thanks for the response all, the initial openeing saw some 50 members join from just this one post. We'll be advertising on other forums as allowed to continue to grow. Thanks for the response.

And in all fairness to THR, I posted just as many times here as I did there over the past few days (exactly to the number)...though that was only a coincidence hehe.

Yeah, I registered there, but somehow dropped an 'e' off of my username. I'll have to plead with someone to fix it once I am activated. :)

It seems to me that there are a number of smaller forums related to firearms and such popping up over the last year, but only a handful actually offer something new or different. I think Glocktalk, AR15.com, The FAL Files and THR/APS pretty cover most all of the bases, with XDTalk, 1911forum and the CZ Forums bringing up the rear for specific firearms-related talk.

While I know there is a good amount of crossover, I think that any time the amount of sustainable forums increases it is a good sign that we have more shooters on the web searching for like-minded folks or better information than they're getting at the gun store. :)

As soon as I get activated, I'm gonna check out the Black Hole hehe. :D

Blackhole looks like a good concept too.

Got your name fixed :)

As far as Blackhole, well, I guess I could always make a new thread to invite folks over there. In a nutshell, its an "off topic" type forum, but has the gun stuff, knives, gadgets, but also....philosophy, religion, and politics. Stuff you want to talk about, but can't on places that are very specific like here, TFL, etc.

I, like NineseveN, respect THR and the philosophy..just like having a place for off topic discussions :)
