*BLAM* I work the action back, the shell gets stuck in the ejection port... it doesnt always fly out like it should. I have to pick it out, then I can close the action on a new shell.

It was over the period of 100 shells, some with problems, others without. I didn't check to see if it still had the problem on the last shell in the gun (although I should have).

I meticulously clean my weapons, I don't treat them badly. Has anyone else run into this kind of trouble with the mossberg 500? Is it an easily replaced ejector problem?

I was using light target loads, nitro something hunting loads, and 3" turkey loads. Problems with all 3.

are they all plastic hulls? I know this sounds stupid but humor me here. also were any of them stored in humid (i.e. above 40% humidity) and thus likely to swell.

You would always happen to be shucking said beasitie of a shotgun like you borrowed it from your brother-in-law too right? FIRM without getting nasty, FIRM to the hard physical stop at both ends of the stroke?

Yes, they were plastic shells, stored in my attic (dry as bones)

I wasn't weak stroking the action. Firmly back towards the reciever until it stops. I am thinking more and more that it is just a weak extractor, or maybe the spring is somehow gunked up. (as of yet, I havent completely dismantled the bolt to get at the firing pin, just soaked it in solutions)

check and make sure the ejector didn't just kick the hulls forward off both extractors.

also check to make sure the ejector is full size and in good condition.

yeah, what they said....

and check the extractor for crud built up in the lip/hook/sharp pointy thingie that grabs the rim of the shell. If it's worn down, replace it. They're cheap enough to replace. What's the value of a follow-up shot to you? You might even consider taking it to a gunsmith you trust.

Rabbit.
