YAHOO!!!!
:D :D :D

Got my ASVAB results back today. I qualied for Gunners Mate in the Coast Guard!! *does a little dance*

Been so happy since I heard...

There was a paperwork mixup, and so I was told I qualified for every job in the Coast Guard except gunner's mate .... What followed was the second loudest profanity I have uttered in my life.
:cuss:

Then I got a call a few hours ago that said "Whoops, we messed up, you did qualify for Gunners Mate, congratulations. Sorry for the mixup."

:D :D

Can't wait until I can post stuff about 50 cal MG's and 76mm Canon. :p

/ One very happy Arcli9ht

Do try to stay in the boat. Not much worse than having to fish the new guy out of the water twice a day.:neener:

CONGRATULATIONS puddle jumper :D !

That sounds like an old recruiter tactic, did'nt they know you wanted to be a GM?.

How long till you leave?

GO NAVY!

My "in" date for boot camp is June/July.

Boot camp is actually booked solid until then. Guess they have had a surge of recruits with 9/11 and the war and all.

There has been one problem after another with me trying to get my medical records transferred to the CG. New privacy laws make it really difficult for even patients to get their hands on their own records... ugh.

Anyway, the "mistake" with my scores seems to be just that. My recruiter knew that I would sell my first born son to go to GM school :p And she was shocked that I didn't seem to qualify, yet I qualified for everything else. So she checked around, and it turns out it was a computer error.

enh... politics politics. I am going to try my best to help people at sea, and hopefully nab a few drug runners while I am at it.

You are at least six feet tall aren't you?

That way when the boat sinks, you can walk to shore without getting your hat wet.;) :p

Go Navy!...oops! Just couldn't resist.

Good job! And good luck. Always keep one hand for the boat, and one hand for you. Not much worse than having to fish the new guy out of the water twice a day. Don'tcha know!

I never got to see the Navy and CG shoot it out before! :)

Arcli9ht - just be careful and watch out for guys who say "but you'd be really good as..." or "wouldn't you really want to try for ...." and that sort of thing - at least that's what we got hit with in the Army. It's YOUR life, not theirs - remember that!

Congrats.

My asvab scores were average on all areas except technical. For that I qualified to crew this beast. http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid41/p7c8dc2e03c91ac1292efa8a64c31a188/fcf76ab0.jpg

You might want to look further into this. I have been working on HIPPA compliance for our agency for the last six months. From my understanding it should be easier to get your hands on your medical records. If it is not, your medical provider may be in violation of the these new federal standards. Just mention the word HIPPA and folks should jump to get your your files.

Hope this helps,

I remember that test...

99th percentile.

And I took it after an all-nighter partying, and I was seriously twisted. I don't think that the recruiter believed it when he saw the scores.

Congrats! Wish I'd followed the old man into the coasties; bright orange helos!

Dad retired a Master Chief Petty Officer and did most of his time out of Seattle and Kodiak Island doing SAR in the Alaskan Gulf. Stories? Oh my yes.

Is boot still in New London?

Quarter: boot is in Cape May, New Jersey. The academy is in New London.

Rowdy: 10 days after boot, I get sent to A-School is my understanding now.

Had Coasties in Gunners Mate "A" when I went, I was Navy. Coasties can get the "C" school for the Mk76 weapons system too. Work your can off when you get to "A" school, it is not that hard to be tops in the class. Good luck.

As mentioned above, competition within the class is very keen for the Honor Graduate. I was in the #1 spot for 5 of the 6 weeks of MST "A" in 2000, but I didn't study as hard as I could have for the final exam, so I dropped down to second place in the final ranking. Oh well.

"A" School is really fun.

If you're a drinkin' man, Mittie's and the Yorktown Pub are popular.

I was thinking about joining the Air Force once and I took that test, I scored in the top 1%. I have always been good at school but not that good! I got nervous after that test because it seemed like it was too easy. I wonder if it is some kind of trick to recruit people. Anyway, I decided to just go to school on my own but I always think what it would have been like to be a pilot. They wouldn't tell me if I could be a pilot until after I joined up so I passed on that. I didn't want to end up as a mess cook or something.

Coast Gaurd sounds kind of cool to, I never even considered that branch, probably because I live in the Midwest! They get to wear shorts AND shoot guns! I really like the Mariner 870 shotgun, do you get one of those bad boys?
