I wish to buy one fixed blade knife for hunting, camping, and moderate use around the Castle de Muncus( my small house). I don’t want nor need a “tactical knife” yet something modern. I really like the looks and size of the CR MKVI. What do you guys have to say about this model and Chris Reeve’s knives in general? Would this knife serve me well for lifetime of use, or would you suggest another maker?
Even though it is smaller, I am also looking at the Shadow III fwiw.

Chris Reeves makes some of the finest fixed blades you can buy. I wouldn't hesitate in purchasing any one of his knives. The CR MKVI should serve you well.

I have a 4" Mountaineer 1 that I'm extremely pleased with. I probably would have ordered a longer blade if I didn't already have an old 6" Case XX that I use for hacking and beating on stuff.

Have an old South African Jeroboam II (hex butt cap). Got it when I was into knife collecting. I will never again buy any hollow handle knife unless it is made like a Chris Reeves. THe single piece design is, IMO, incredible. It is one of my most prized pieces in my small collection. One of these days I'll get back into knives and get more Chris Reeves products. I cannot see how it would not last a lifetime.

Chris's knives are outstanding and I personally like Chris, but you can do as well for much less cash for what you want to do with the knife. Look at Barkriver or Marbles or any of a score of custom makers that produce nice 4" fixed blade knives.

chris reeves are nice no doubt i just cant see spending that much money for a "survival" knife when the cr knives are more for combat. lets face it a good survival/camp knife dosent mean its will be good for combat i point the the tom brown tracker knife by tops great for a survival/camp knife but completely unsuited to combat the coldsteel bushman falls into the same catigory. it is a personel openion i know but survival and combat are not the same thing if i want a "combat" knife i will be carying somthing more akin to the coldsteel trailmaster bowie the reason is when the original chalange was made in 1984 for any company to "make a better knife" nobody could do it today the chalange still stands. coldsteel said it was better than any comerical knife made and better than 99% of the custome made knives on the market. the price is reasonable for such a knife. but as with many things personell prefrence will have its say and cr as i said make a good knife though a bit expensive for this ole hillbilly's taste.

I love my Project I but am afraid to use it because the fit and finish on it is flawless. It is a remarkable knife that no doubt would perform as good as it looks. It is my SHTF and BOB knife should it ever happen. The knives are supposedly tougher than a 50 cent steak.
Very tactical style, of course, but flawless fit and finishing-- just the H&K USP pistol (got one of them, too).

I can't comment on the fixed blades, as they aren't my thing, but I have had a Sebenza in my pocket for the better part of a decade and it's just a fantastic knife. Excellent materials, excellent craftsmanship, sharp, tough, simple. It's a fantastic knife, and I've used it for everything from carving, to crafts, to home improvement, to campfire cooking. Hasn't missed a beat.
I'm sure you can get good knives for less, but if you want a really high quality piece that is going to last a really long time, you can't get much better.
