For that rifle I'd get a Lyman reciever sight. Sold by Brownells and elsewhere. It will look better on that vintage rifle. It offer better strength and looks over the Williams, being it is made of steel. It has more precision adjustments and can take a smaller peep than the 'new wave' AO and Brockmans. :)

The Lyman is a really fine instrument, looks great and is accurate and rugged. The Williams does not look as good, but it's also accutrate, rugged , simple and a lot cheaper.
Either works just fine, Lyman costs more and looks more complicated.
Depends what you want.

I have used the Williams Foolproof sights for over 30 years with no problems.

You may have to go to a taller front sight blade in either case.

BTW, the .35/336 is an excellent rifle.

another vote for the williams fp sight.I have williams sights on all my lever actions.the 5D isn't a bad sight if bucks are tight.I have one of these on my win 30-30 that I only shoot one handload for hunting.sight it in locktite it down.:)

I've used the Williams FoolProof on different rifles for over forty years with great success. They are plenty sturdy, light-weight and rust-proof and will hold their settings better than the Lyman via set screws (ergo, the moniker foolproof). IMO, they look better-more streamlined and compact.

In any event, you've got the right idea. A good (either Williams or Lyman) receiver sight is always more appropriate on a lever carbine than any scope.

I have the Williams FP on one 336 and the XS Sights on another. Between the two, I prefer the XS Sights but the Williams can generally be had for less $$.

I have one of thse on my 1895 GG and it is as accurate as a scope. It has also held up to the hard pounding of heavy loads.
