Radio talk show host "Sean Hannity" is a friend of the RKBA, but, he has yet to speak out strongly against the assault weapons ban.

Im encouraging everybody here to drop him and his 11 million listeners a line. ;)

Thanks.

I sent him a quick note, but after reading the thread on the AWB, I'm not so sure we want this topic on the top five list of any sheeple any time soon. The less fanfare when it dies the better.

Yes.

For every 100 people that hear the AWB will die, 2-5 will be happy, 10-20 will be terrified and depending on the region, the rest will either not care or assume that it will be "handled".

Best to fly NOE as long as we can.

I thought about that myself, but the conservative listeners of his show would mostly contact their representatives, not Bush. The AWB can be defeated without the president. Its up to us though to put the pressure on.

I dont know if its just me but, the hope of the AWB just slipping by while the left gets vocal about it seems like the hope is laced with guilt on our part. At least thats how I imagine it might appear.

I think the country needs to know how we feel. Not guilty. And that the 2nd Amendment is as sacred as the 1st. And that the AWB is unconstitutional.

We cant let the left keep chipping away at us and washing minds on the RKBA. We need to speak up and keep the pressure on. Just my humble opinion.

Newsflash:

Not all "conservatives" want the AWB lifted.

I don't think so, folks. "Quiet" favors the status quo, not so? And the AWB is the status quo. Therefore, being "quiet" lets it slide through Congress without major public debate, and that favors it.

I'd say that right now it's the opposite.

The sunset in 2004, then as little media attention as possible so that the renewal bills and worse ones the left will submit will quietly languish in comittie is the "status quo" right now, IMO...

I don't want to sound like an aplologist, and I'd like a big denouncment of the AW ban from Bush just as much as the rest of us would, but I think that severa of those who we feel have betrayed us because they've publicly stated for a renewal, are in our corner, but looking for the ban to die too, just well, well, away from them.

Getting another ban through after the sunset is going to be a major uphill battle for the antis when you consider all the comitties, votes, denials, ammendments, returning to comittie, then turning over to the Senate (assuming it ever leaves the house, which in itself is a loing shot) where it will have to undergo the same process, then have any differences hammered out by yet more committie, then go to a full vote, then and only then cross the president's desk.

To me it seems almost impossible that they could get that all done in one legislative session in a hostile nominally pro-gun majority environment. If they don't, it starts all over again the next year from scratch.

I am one of the upbeat ones and believe we have the odds in our favor this time.

"Quiet" favors the status quo, not so? Agree. We need to be contacting our Congressmen, particularly those in the House and letting them know how we feel. Generally, keep the pressure up, but the publicity down. Let the AWB die quietly.

That said, being in CA, the AWB is irrelavent to me right now. We have our own AW legislation and high cap magazine restrictions. But I for one intend to leave relatively soon (been saying that for years) so getting rid of the ban is still important.

I agree with calling the legiscritters. But quietly is not going to happen. The media pays attentiong to the anti-freedom movement. People like Fineswine, schmucker, etc... aren't going to go away. They're going to introduce the 'reenactment' of the existing legislation, and probably with some 'enhancements'. Any resistance will be met with a press conference to demonize the NRA, and Repblican leadership in bed with them. Quietly will not happen.

I think we need to reevaluate what to do. I think studies will show that the impact has been negligible. I think it would be better to make some minor offensive moves, rather than be stuck on the defensive. If we let the friends in Congress sit around on their thumbs, they won't be prepared when the political pressure is applied to them to vote for renewal. Inaction got us in this situation, and further lack of preparedness will make it worse.

I don't know about the others, but by "quietly" , I certainly don't mean "Do nothing". Pressure on our congress critters is always in fashion. I just think that in a political warfare sort of way that for this to die a quiet death is "real" evidence that the left is on the ropes. Don't open the door back up for them with any "from my cold dead hands" retoric. Don't pick a fight you already have won:D
