This one is using something else (quartz?) instead of flint, but is otherwise a fairly faithful copy of the original.

Nice!

That flint (or whatever it is) is sawn, not knapped, hence the nice straight lines.

I have used those. I don't think they are technically "flint" but they are functionally equivalent and work OK.

Oleg, by the way, the smoothbore flintlock musket was the "assault weapon" of the 18th and early 19th century.

Nice pic, too -- all your art is very nice and very effective.

Betcha any money that its Iron Pyrite..... It looks like quartz, and you cant 'knap' it. Most were filed into shape.
Wheellocks used Pyrites and so its very easy to see a transition.:neener:

To get real flint for the lock. Dixie Gun Works has some good varieties from around the world, ready to chuck up in the hammer jaws. From what I understand, nothing gives a hotter spark than real flint. ;)
