Just thought we should start a new thread.
I believe the 1st, 8th and 15th have been suggested. Let's pick a date. I believe all would work for me and madkiwi.

So... I'll just be decisive here and make a motion to set the tentative date to April 1... If that doesn't work for people it's not set in stone, I'm just trying to put something on the table.

My brother is coming up to Oroville that weekend. Have lots of rifle work to do.
This will probably be a good weekend though. Weather is supposed to be outstanding.

QBG! Labrat! Kiwi! You are all still here! Phew... I was worried I'd return and find that people had signatures like "moved to NV so I can have a Beta C mag in my AR" line. Big relief you are still here.

Any idea what time we'll show up?
Do they take cash only, or plastic? How much does it cost?
What food/drinks/supplies should we bring?
Meet at the tin can range?
Barring any unforseen circumstances, I'll be there.
And so will Mr. Browning's Amazing Shooting Machine:

Oooooooh Pete got his 1919. Super Double Happy Fun!
And Pete brings up a good point:
BBQ? If we do, I'm definitely heading up earlier to start the fire; those coals took FOREVER last time to get going.
Labrat: That's gorgeous! Looks like a stripper clip guide in the dust cover, is that right? That's so much better than breakin' the thing open every time.
edit: Pete, for the love of whatever- get a solid mount for that thing! Tell me that's not a Mk II 10% Post Consumer Compressed Fiber Board Tactical Mount I see?
Sgt Stevo
April 29th, 2006, 01:09 PM
They open at like ten, Right?

I can bring the BBQ and coals again, but I'll leave the ignition up to someone more skilled. :)
Oh, wait...Los Altos has that big BBQ pit, so bringing the little hibachi probably isn't necessary.
As for the mount, you're absolutely right about me needing a solid mount. I'm looking at building one out of wood from Home Depot, then nailing rubber feet onto the bottom of it. I already have the 1/2" bolt, nut, and locking washers that are sufficient enough to go through the gun and two 2x4s on either side of it. Alas, a lack of money, time, and so forth precludes me from doing that.
Oh, and the cardboard box is for catching brass and links. You can see the wood blocks and sandbags fore and aft that support the gun itself.
I can't afford the "real" tripods which run about $500+, so I'm stuck with a homebrew solution.
Acrid
April 30th, 2006, 11:20 PM
Pete, as QBG brought up...it took forever to get the coals going. Unless it's a pain in the ass for you to bring it, the little Weber will make for faster and easier cooking.
Whose bringing what? (I'm refering to food, not guns :D )
I'll bring some soda and bockwurst, maybe make my bro buy a bag o' chips.

Not a problem. I'll bring the little Weber, but it only holds like 4 hamburgers at any given time. About 4-5 bockwursts, depending on size.
I'll bring the BBQ and the charcoal, and maybe a box (12 cans) of Diet Cherry Coke (I normally don't drink diet, but I'm trying to lose weight and every bit counts). I might bring some hotdogs and buns if I remember, but otherwise am hoping the bringing of the BBQ means I can collect a small portion of the food cooked on it as tax.
On a gunny-related note, I have several (maybe 3-5, I don't remember exactly) bricks of Federal American Eagle .22LR that hasn't been working all that great out of my 10/22 (it prefers Remington bulk-pack over the Fed bulk-pack). If anyone wants to buy it, I'd be willing to bring a bunch and sell it at a fair price.
Also, I called the range and they accept Visa and MasterCard only. No Discover or American Express. This means I'll definitely be there, as I've been stashing money away in the bank, but don't ever have cash.
For gunny stuff, I'll probably end up bringing the 10/22, the M1919, and maybe something else...my budget's been running thin, and my ammo stocks are low.

May 3rd, 2006, 11:37 PM
I'm going to see about showing up around 10:00 or so, but knowing me, it'll probably be closer to 11ish.
I'd better be there, as I'm bringing the grill and coals. I'll see about getting some tasties for the grill and other stuff.
I also have about three dozen coke cans that I can bring down to "reuse" before I "recycle" them. There's a water tap right by the tin can range, so one can easily fill targets.

Alright...I'll be there.
I'm bringing the tricked out 10/22, the .405, the Cooper varmint gun and the HS Precision hunting rifle. I ordered an Ed Brown the other day, but it's not in yet so I'll have to bring it next time.
Ohh..I can also bring the Browning Gold auto, Browning O/U and Browning trap gun. Maybe even the Winchester 101 20 gauge.
Do we need any additional BBQ items? I'd be more than happy to pick something up.

Checklist time:
I'm in for Italian sausage, buns, plastic cutlery and paper plates.
Guns, ammo , plastic bottles to blow up on the tin can range, cleaning stuff (if people need a shot of Break Free or something).
I'll bring charcoal and lighter fluid also.
kbyrd: at the tin can range, just look for the loudest most obnoxious blue Hawaiian shirt; I'll be in it.

I am a Large african american, with a cleft pallet.
If you can not find us. Just go up to Anyone on the range and use the password. "You got a purty mouth mommie."

I'll either be shooting my M4 or my Cali-FAL StG-58, my beautiful bride will have her early StG-58 clone with the walnut buttstock.
Pete will be the ONLY guy there with a Browning 1919a4 resting on a cardboard box in lieu of a tripod.
QBG is loud and obnoxious. His Hawaiian shirts too.
I don't drink a lot of 2 liter sodas, so I'll just bring Full Sail Ale bottles. Cool.
MJ- is that a genuine Mk 4 No 1(T) sniper?

I know this is stupid, but what can I do....
I'm traveling to Monterey today (leaving in a few hours) and will be spending the night there before traveling to Los Altos in the morning. In lieu of leaving $25,000 worth of firearms in the truck while I walk around downtown Monterey, is there anyone that is in the local area that could help me out with some storage for a few hours? If you can help, please call me.
I phoned the Presidio at Monterey (where I have a room reserved) and they commented that I can't even bring firearms on post without all the forms in triplicate along with serial numbers recorded and the post commanders and armory commanders signatures...
There has to be an easier way.
Thanks,
Ed

Secondly, I will never set foot at Los Altos again. Their range nazis made quite a sour first impression.
I'm an adult. I take shooting seriously and I take my safety seriously. I also take responsibility for my safety. I don't do unsafe things with my guns and I don't allow others around me to be stupid while they have guns in their hands. Their policies made me feel like I was at a prison camp rather than a shooting range.
I would gladly go to a dirt pit. I have no problem bringing everything I need if I don't have to put up with their BS.
Call me a punk...call me spoiled by real range facilities...call me anti-social if you wish...but I won't ever give them my money again.

Indeed, and I had enough time to drop Diego off, go home, eat dinner, and get some studying done (more is needed, of course). I think everyone else is slacking!:scrutiny:

Oh? I was a little peeved that the asked me not to bring the 1919 back (evidently all long guns must have a stock, per their rules. Bah. The 1919A6 buttstock is annoying.), but that's not a big deal. What specifically were your complaints? (I don't work there or anything...I'm just curious. It seemed like they left us all alone most of the time.)
Either way, it was a fun day, got to meet a bunch of people, promptly forget their names, and had a blast shooting and muching on BBQ food. All in all, a great day!

I know what he means. For some reason. The range guy was stresed as hell about us.
Now the guy firing my AK-22 gangster style, made him mad. He had the stock folded up.
But he gave my bud Ernie a rashin Of Sh*&
For no good reason. I talked to the older range pogue and told him his boy was rude and unprofessional.
Other than the AK guy, no one was remotly unsafe. I taught my friend to shoot. He is more than safe.
He also a guy that has slid down ropes, with me, and saved lives. He did not deserve to be talked to in this manner.
The old pogue, moved his nasty little friend off our range. To the pistol range.
The range dude got in Ernies face, cussed and yelled at him, for touching his m-1 while it was in the case.
My bud handled it well. But I am never going back. Not ever.
My friend is also no joke. He is well trained, that dude was a maggot infested rat molesting, wanna be puke.

What specifically were your complaints?
First, I got yelled at multiple times for driving too fast through the parking lot. I was never over 5 mph (the speed limit is 3 mph). Although, I did step on it pretty good leaving the place, their attitude was unwelcome. One range officer literally screamed at me as I drove down the hill to turn around.
Secondly, I was reprimanded about holding my .405 Win (action open mind you) with the butt on the bench waiting for the guy next to me to put his weapon down so that he could take mine. Reprimanded for having the muzzle up...when directly behind me there are my other 10 guns with the muzzle up and actions open.
Third, during the final cease fire my girlfriend was moving cleared and cased long guns from the extended cab of my truck to the bed for the ride home. A range officer approached and firmly told her that she can not handle weapons during a cease fire. When she told me about it, I responded that I didn't care what they thought as we were leaving anyway. I continued moving the guns and we departed. The last thing on my mind was appeasing them because my rifle in a case was dangerous... Again,
I also saw him jack up Ernie when he borrowed a screwdriver from me. He wasn't doing anything dangerous. In fact, I'm fairly certain his qualifications with a firearm greatly exceed just about everyone else there.
Their two second rule between shots....please...we're shooting into a giant dirt hill.
Shall I continue?
...and to think I paid $26 for that privilege. I think I'll stay up here in NorCal where I can do whatever I want when I want.

Shall I continue?
No need. I asked only because I was curious, and didn't seem to attract the attention of the range officers other than when they told me I could continue to use the 1919, but it wasn't welcome back until it had a stock.:cuss:
Due to the noise, hearing protection, and dispersed group I must have missed the various events you described. I can see how that'd leave a rather negative impression, and I would likely react in precisely the same way you did.
That said, I suggest that you register a complaint with the range and inform them of the way you were treated. No improvements can be made unless the management is informed. Of course, they might just blow you off, but it's still input from a paying customer, and they would be wise to heed it.

Understood, and I'll take it under advisement.
Other than that, I had a great time. :) :)

Yep, the Los Altos ROs can be annoying, but today they were downright obnoxious. I cannot understand the rule against moving cased guns during ceasefire ... as if an AD under such circumstances would be worse than at any other time. The same RO who was griefing us was later hovering over a group of 3 shooters at the pistol line, almost ignoring everyone else. His attitude seemed to be, "a group of friends shooting ... they must be about to do something wrong!"
But get this esheato, Los Altos has some of the most liberal rules of bay area ranges. Every place around here has a rapid fire rule, and no other place has something like the tin can range. :(
Anyway, it was still good to see everyone again. It's almost 10 and I still haven't put all my stuff away from today's shoot. :)

It was great to get to see all you guys. I suggest we find a BLM spot. That is cental to most of us. And make our own little range. And Handle safety ourselves.
I will look into this. But thanks to all for coming. I got to shoot some cool Sh*&. And I got pic of me with a 1919 for my album. Not bad over all.

I guess that means that more people have to show up next time!

HOLY SMACKERS that's a 90 meg download. Get it while you can... the server above uses my office bandwidth so I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop from the "IT GURUS" here who will probably freak out. If someone can host a mirror, I will be forever indebted. Otherwise, I can burn CDs later.. .but get it now if you want it! LOL
I got some photos of Stevo's buddy getting a "talking to" from the range nazis in there..... Lets do the next shoot on BLM land. And I promise to stick around next time for the full day, and to eat breakfast first so I'm not passing out.
Oh yeah, and ILL BRING MORE AMMO NEXT TIME!

It is about an hour and a half outside of hollister. And it is huge. Look it up on the web. It is a national, BLM type place. I will try to find a link and send it to you.
And I will map it when I get a chance. Give me a couple of days my bro ho.
As I am boiling like six hours a day up on the training field at work. It got sunny and everybody wants their dog trained. I gave three group obed classes today.
Im cooked like lobster bisk.

Damn it I missed the shoot. Been so busy getting my car back on the road for the MOPAR car show I just havn't been on line that much.
About 8 or 9 months ago the guy who runs the place told me 1919's were fine I wonder why they changed their rules about the 1919's.
A nice accessory to go with your 1919.
