How do you conceal your J frame?

I'm exploring different methods of carrying my 640 .357 concealed and would like opinions from others on what they feel is the best method. If you carry IWB please state whether it is in the 1 o'clock, 4 o'clock etc. position and also what holsters have worked best for you. Thanks, Mike

I carry mine OWB with a covering vest or jacket. I use a Galco Speed-Master opentop. This is me & mine:

I carry my 340SC .357 mag in the pocket and although it is amazingly light, it feels a bit "lumpy" at times, especially while sitting or kneeling. At present, I carry it in an Uncle Mike's size 4 soft, flexible fabric pocket holster, but I'm looking to upgrade to something a little more "concealable." Since I wear almost exclusively Docker-style pleated trousers, it is almost invisible when I'm standing or walking.

Fabric IWB at 3:00 under a jacket, vest, or just shirttail out. I'm "big boned" so it disappears really well even in the summer in shorts and a t-shirt.

Barami Hip-Grip, under a T-shirt in the summer months, under a jacket in the winter. It works really well for me.

I keep the 640 in the pocket mostly with an Uncle Mikes pocket holster. Works well. I also use a DeSantis IWB at 4o'clock or so. That hides great with a t-shirt. If its cool out i will wear an overshirt. All in all I love the 640 :)

IWB @ 4 O'Clock seems to work best for me. Holster depends on type of covering garment. Winter in Fl. = Sweatshirt or light jacket =OWB Galco. Summer= T-Shirt=IWB sans holster. It is not for everyone I know, but it works for me. I never could fit a J frame in my Levis pocket, or the pockets of my hiking shorts either, there is just not enough room. Ankle holsters feel are also out for the same reason.
Good luck in whichever method you decide to try.

1:30 position with a Barami hip grip for my S&W 37 and 60. Never had it slip out or fall down.

I pack my pre-agreement Smith & Wesson model 60 in a Kramer inside the waist band holster at four to five o'clock. It stays put, doesn't take up lots of room, and lets me sit in chairs comfortably.

If I am carrying a J frame, its because clothing style just won't handle anyhthing bigger. I carry in the front right hand pants pocket, slipped in a Sam Andrews pocket holster.

...I carry my "Always" gun, a Smith Model 442, in a now out-of-production Bagmaster "Fanny pack"...mostly for the convenient "on and off"...can't carry at work, unfortunately, and the fanny pack is a lot more innocuous to leave in the vehicle than a paddle holster and gun--!!!....mikey357

Uncle Mikes left front pocket. When riding the mt. bike it's in a small waist bag by Uncle Mikes. I think that it is a gunmate?

1 o'clock in a Galco Scout j-hook IWB for my 638, 37 and 640. Only concern is it's not really accessible when driving, but I have my KP-95 for the truck.

My Taurus 731UL is most often in a Fist #K1 IWB at the 4:30 position.
I usually use a flat-buckled GI elastic belt as an "underbelt" and the forward strap of the Fist is a snap strap (per my request) so I can secure it to either the GI belt or to a pants belt.
(The inner belt keeps my weapon secure even when my pants are down - eg. toliet.)

Lately been carrying IWB at 1 o'clock in my new Don Hume holster, great stuff, can't recommend them highly enough. Sometimes in the right front pocket in a holster I made from an old wallet. And if I were allowed to carry at work, probably in my fanny pack.

I am back to carrying my 640. I prefer a Galco IWB at the 4 o'clock position or a jacket pocket.

IWB, 4:00, butt forward most often works for me. Most comfortable here sitting, driving. Accessible with either hand.

Got my barami in the mail yesterday just about 15 minutes before heading out the door to the range, so I've had a chance to both carry and shoot it a little bit.
Short review: I like the way it feels a lot. It puts my 340 in much easier-to-access position than pocket carry, yet is totally discrete with the simplest cover (any untucked shirt). I'm carrying at 3:30-4:00, and it's perfectly comfortable to sit, drive, walk, whatever.
I'm not so crazy about the way it looks. It's chintzy black plastic, and I had to remove an attractive pair of wood combat grips that I bought from S&W, then shaped to my own preference and oiled.
Nor am I entirely crazy about shooting with it. Don't get me wrong; it did not impede control or accuracy, using 38 +p ammo in my little 12 oz. snub. I shot a box of 50 and got only a small blister on my thumb; but I've gotten to where, using other grips, I can shoot a couple of boxes with no such problems and no discomfort to speak of.
So, barami is a very workable option that is very good at what it's good at: discrete, easy carry. I'm going to run with it for a while, and suspect my other grips will be relegated to times when I'm showing off my ultralite wonder at the range or expecting to use other modes of carry (pocket or bellybag) for a while for whatever reason.
MikeJ--I don't know how much of an effect the extra 10 or so ounces of your gun would have. I think with the right pants and belt, you'd be fine. With my gun, I've been carrying in pretty light shorts all day without any slippage. The 640 is a great weapon; hope you enjoy it.

I have a model 60 .357 and a Taurus 85Ti and I usually have one of them with me. I carry them in several different ways depending on how I'm dressed.
Shorts , dockers - strong side front pocket in pocket holster.
Jeans, shirt untucked - strong side rear pocket in pocket holster or IWB at 1 O'clock
Jeans with tucked shirt, or nicer pants that I don't want to abuse the pocket - SmartCarry with the gun at about 12:30.
I used to carry "mexican" a lot at about 1 o'clock but it has come loose before and it really is just as easy (and safer) to use an IWB in the same position.

1960's vintage S&W Model 38 Bodyguard is normally carried in front strong side pocket in a Uncle Mikes #3 or #4 pocket holster. If I am carrying something bigger as well, the Model 38 gets sent to the weak side front pocket.
The Model 38 is always with me. My "always" pocket rocket. :)

For summer carry of a 442 with an untucked t-shirt, I use a Covert Carry IWB between my belt buckle and my hip bone. The belt clip works well and it's made so your shirt will tuck down into your pants if you like.
Depending on the shorts I'm wearing, I use the same holster in a front pocket from time to time.

I use an old Nylon belt holster that I cut all but one of the belt loops off and slip it IWB at 4 o'clock and occasionally belt it on. Once in a while I will just slip it in my pocket with my 3 additional moonclips, if that does not tell you what I carry, here is help it is a S&W 940. I will use the same set up when I carry my 3" mod 60-4.
