But it's better than returning to a local LEO every 4 years for a paper and prints.

I was in Mitch Daniels office today as he signed into law Indiana's Lifetime liscense bill. Must have been at least 50 supporters there and no protesters or hecklers in the croud. I will add an accurate count if I can get one. I just checked the ILA alerts and news and didn't see this mentioned.

First lifetime liscense to carry handgun in the US for non millitary or LE.

I'm happy about the lifetime permit. Congratulations to those who made it happen.

I've also heard some disturbing rumors about the state police creating a new database to store copies of all of our 4473 forms. Can you explain how all that works?

I just applied for my regular old permit. Can I have it transmuted into a lifetime one, or do I have to re-apply all over again?

I am being told that will be removed and they will only aquire those copies needed for ongoing investigations. Bunch of people ticked off by that. I am still trying to find out who put it in there.

I do not think this is comparable to the NY version. We do not list guns on the Indiana Liscense. Issueing authority does not get to change terms of the Indiana liscense. Issueing authority is the Indiana State Police and not the county. You just have to apply in the county or local PD. Some big differences there. Is NYC issueing a lifetime unrestricted liscense? I am sure someone in the know can clarify that.

As I read this it seems the SB054 version allowed the lifetime as an option for renewals only. I do not have the answer for renewing early to get the lifetime and I do not think a change is allowed to current liscenses are allowed.

Time frame for renewing was extended to 90 days before expiration and fees are higher. The lifetime will cost 100+ but then you will not be visiting Marion Co city/county building as they take 3 or 4 copies of your prints. If they can get some Fed money to pay off the ISP they will be renewing online.

I agree. The 2A requires no paperwork.
