Hello all.

Would anyone be interested in learning the shooting method taught to British commandos, American OSS operatives and countless American troops during WWII? Also, unarmed fighting using the dirty tactics taught to these same combatants.

I'm considering setting-up a training seminar or shooting school where these close quarter combat tactics and techniques will be demonstrated.

Please let me know of your interest.

Maybe,

I live in LA so please tell me where at, how much and what I would need to bring.

If I have to show up on a Marine base in full camo carring an M1, then I would have to politely decline.

What are your qualifications to teach those classes?

Further clarification. I'm teaching myself these techniques and tactics. So far my results are very good. I believe strongly that these methods would be useful to all who carry pistols for self-defense.

I'm considering teaching others what I've learned. It can be world-changing and attitude adjusting. The square-range mentality needs to be broadened to include a 'kill or be killed' instinct.

Also, after years of martial arts training and practice, I've grown to learn that the 'dirty' tricks and tactics taught to the Brits and the OSS in WWII are possibly more effective and easy to master for the everyday Joe or Jane. I intend to pass on what I've learned in this regard, also.

I've not finalized my plans for instruction. I've not acquired premises for said instruction. I'm asking if anyone in the Southern California area is interested enough for me to pursue offering this instruction.

Thanks for the responses

You are correct about WW2 combatives/point shooting, at least IMHO.
But from which sources are you self teaching yourself?

Where would this take place ? Shooting in SOCAL is slim pickings.

I've been studying Shooting to Live, Get Tough, Kill or Get Killed, Bullseyes Don't Shoot Back, and Close Combat Files of Rex Applegate.

I've been applying these methods on my own at the range where I shoot. This is a local law enforcement range and is usually empty except for me.

My groups have been consistently tight and I feel much better carrying my full-size 1911 than before I started this training.

I've been making real progress by myself and if I keep getting better and more confident I'd like to spread this knowledge around.

Most of the shooters I know, especially those with permits to carry concealed weapons like I do, don't believe pointshooting will 'work.' They stick to their 2-handed Weaver stance no matter what the statistics tell them about real gun fights; that is, there's no time to use your sights when someone is shooting at you from close range.

So, I'd like to begin spreading the word about pointshooting in my area (southern California) by helping people train for real close quarters combat.

I don't want to just tell people to read the materials I've studied. I want to open a place (or travel to where enough shooters will gather for a shooting class) and demonstrate how even novice shooters can learn enough basic skills to make themselves safer in the real world.

This is kind of how Applegate and Fairbairn trained their students. Take newbies, show them the benefits of pointshooting (and the unarmed dirty fighting tactics), train them to apply what they've learned, and then drill them in real world scenarios (like the 'house of horrors').

I don't have a firearms training background. I have been shooting and carrying for less than a year. I am not encumbered by having to unlearn 'modern' shooting methods. I am serious about close quarters combat training.

I came upon pointshooting and realized this was a method that worked for me. I believe it will work for others. I'd like to help them find their way as I did.

I'm currently getting my head around taking time from my already busy schedule in order to try and begin some sort of training curriculum I could offer to shooters who were interested in these methods of combat. So I've put out this post as a sort of feeler to test the waters.

Thanks again for your responses.

I think your biggest block in this is your credibility. I appreciate your honesty in telling us your sources for information, but I would not be comfortable getting instruction from somebody who learned just from books and videos.

Just being a good shot doesn't mean you can teach it to somebody else. Do you have any instructor experience, either in firearms and/or martial arts?

Have you experienced any professional training at an established school? What real-life qualifications and experience do you have? Former military? Police officer? Distinguished graduate of a shooting school?

Cut the guy some slack, I am sure he knows more about pointshooting then most of us.

PeanutLover if I were you I would have a few classes that you offer for free and then see if people really feel that they were helped by the class. This will give you some free credibility, and also help you learn some about teaching. You could also take the NRA instrutcor course. I know several members here are certified to teach basic gun safety. Try PMing Hillbilly and asking him about teaching classes if I remember correctly he teaches a carry course down in Arkansas.

On a side not I practice point shooting when I compete in IPSC matches. Anything closes then 4 yards I will usually just engage with a natural two handed pointing technique.

Peanutlover if you are serious about this I suggest you take a course from one of the members that belong to this forum. That will add credibility and may help you modify some techniques. I think you are on the right track with your thought methodology but not everyone here agree's. This is a very hot topic tread lightly.
