Hi all,

I am wondering if it is legal to concealed carry in liquor stores in PA? Since all the stores are state liquor stores, does this make them off limits to carry?

I've never seen any signs to that effect and as far as I know the only places not to carry in PA are schools and county court houses. There are Federal sites in PA that have signs forbidding carry, postoffices, courts, and historical sites.

I carry in the PA Liquor Stores frequently. Nothing prohibits it...

Things to be aware of:

-State/county/local courts must provide a mechanism to "check your gun" at the door, either through lockers or the deputy issuing a reciept.

-The "no guns in school" law has a "lawful purposes" exception. The lawful purpose "self defense" which cannot be questioned in the state of PA if you are a law abiding person, is printed on your LTCF. This question has never gone to court, so there is no precedent case law to support this position, however. Nonetheless, it seems to be accepted.

-State parks have taken the position that anyone found to have a firearm, irrespective of any permit, will be asked to leave, and charged with trespass if the person refuses to do so. This is probably inconsistent with the statutes, but has not been tested in court.

-Signs prohibitting carriage in other places are rare as hen's teeth, and do not carry the force of law. The only one I ever saw actually wasn't legal, as it was posted on public property, so it didn't have even the flimsiest legal leg to stand on.

In some smaller towns, an entire building will be "off-limits" due to the magistrate office being located there.

BTW, there was a court case that clarified that the court prohibition pertained soley to the courtoom and judges chambers.

The practices of many courthouses are not in alignment with the law.
