so, at the toy store yesterday in response to spend my bonus thread, they have a Model 21 in 44spl (the thunder ranch revolver)
this is a pretty dang cool revolver, very much designed to be carried.
however, i don't shoot 44spl and I have no plans to add a new caliber.
Then he says they make it in 45ACP and he could order one.
I assume is uses moon clips.
Pretty cool
Any thoughts?
Bonus arrives friday, I expect it all to be spent by saturday afternoon. :neener:

It's the Model 22 and yes, it does use moon clips. Nice revolver, and one of the few wheelguns in my collection.

I believe 5 come with it. Mine can be shot without it, but reliability goes out the window. If the revolver climbs at all during recoil (or if someone lifts the muzzle to thumbcock it), the unfired rounds slide out just enough to jam the cylinder rotation.

The 22-4 is the most traditional revolver S&W has offered in some time and it's been a big seller. It's the standard N frame with a square butt and comes with grips that look like the old style "diamond" grips except they have a small Thunder Ranch logo stamped at the top.

The gun uses .45 ACP ammo (it comes with 5 clips and these are available all over at low cost) or .45 Auto Rim. Be advised that it does incorporate the internal lock that so many hate. I have one of the early ones and I think it's fun to shoot.

I've got a 5" 625 in .45ACP. Let me warn you right now, man. Once you go to a .45ACP, moonclipped revolver, it's very difficult to go back. I mean, you're losing the power-to-weight ratio of, say, a .44 Magnum, but it just feels so slick that you hardly care.

They make excellent companions to your favorite .45ACP autoloader.

The revolver comes with a nice padded zipper case with the TR logo embroidered on the outside, and until April somethin-or-other there is a free range bag offer from S&W when you purchase a new revolver.

I figure the two freebies* are probably worth around $40-50 if sold at retail.

The Model 22 is a heckuva fun revolver, one I'm very glad I bought.

* - yeah, I know. Nothing comes free.

If you decide to use it for self defense, Cor Bon is now loading their excellent DPX bullet in Auto Rim cases.

Here's a partial glimpse of the padded case that comes with it.

Here's the link to print out your free range bag offer coupon. I got mine and it's very nice.

Get a de-mooner tool (several variations available from simple to complex) or make one like I did from an old golf club. It works great and the loaded rounds or expended cases stay up inside the shaft until I want to pour them out.

Those revolvers have some kind of hole in the side. Is it a manufacturing defect of some kind???
