The Fenix L1P is a "tactical" light, which can probably be best compared to the SureFire E1L tac light. The Fenix has seen a lot of attention from flashlight aficionados, who appreciate the high quality from a AA power source, instead of the much more expensive and harder to find 123s.
L1P:
about 45 lumens
>reverse clicky pushbutton switch
>LED
>1 AA battery
>about 2 hrs FULL brightness, plus about another 2 hrs reduced output
>1.45 oz
>3.61x.79"
>belt pouch and lanyard
E1L:
about 25 lumens
>"Tactical" pushbutton switch
>LED
>1 123 battery
>about 1 hour FULL brightness, plus about 3 hrs reduced outpout
>2.6 oz
>3.3" length
>clip
$80-100
A small, very bright and tough light is probably one of the most important tools defensive-minded people can have. Unlike something like a firearm, besides being useful in a life and death situation, a light will see weekly, and sometimes daily use.
SureFire makes great lights, but the L1P is brighter, lasts longer, and TAKES AA BATTERIES. It is longer but slimmer, and weighs less. They are currently on sale for $36.95, shipped, from Fenix Store.com (http://fenix-store.com/index.php?cPath=22).

i might be missing something here but i dont understand if the fenix is nearly twice as bright, more readily available, and lasts just as long, why isnt surefire doing the same thing?
im sure there must be some kind of science behind it but not being a flashlight nut im not understanding it.

Well, I'm not saying the Fenix is more readily available, but AA batteries are certainly easier to find than 123s!
SureFire really is THE name in the tactical flashlight world, but with great new flashlights coming out almost every day from other makers, I predict they will very rapidly lose market share if they do not both innovate and drop prices.
The Fenix L1 is the first affordable tactical 1 AA flashlight I've seen, and I believe it would attract a healthy market share even at a similar price to SureFire. Lower cost just makes the Fenix an even more attractive choice.

They're good lights. Check out Candlepowerforums.com for more info. People over there love SureFire, too...

Here is a picture of my old EDC's and my present L1P that is replacing those.
L1P's are excellent lights, I EDC my L0P, but I wouldn't quite call them a "tactical" light. IMO a Tac light needs a little more OOMPH in the lumen output dept.
BUT, the latest price decrease on L1P's is excellent, I need to get one.

my l1p replaced my e2e as my edc. I preordered the P1 from tadgear and am really looking forward to it.

While I'm at it, here's (http://www.ledbeam.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2)
another good light that takes easily found batteries, and that is on sale.
It's not even close to being in the same league as Black Bear's MAG 951/II, but it is a good, sturdy light with light much better than current Mag Lites, for just a few bucks more.

The fenix lights are very nice.
The only thing I don't like on the one I had was the reverse clickie.

Ok guys, help me out here.
My favorite light is the old ARC AA.
What currently available light is closest to the ARC AA? I want something that uses AA batteries, has a good run time, and with an overall length no greater than the ARC AA. It DOES NOT have to be "tactical" bright.
Ideas?

Gerber Infinity (http://www.twgdistributors.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=398) should be extremely close in size.
Here (http://www.obaq.tv/cpf/images/ArcAA_Infinity_ArcLS.jpg) next to an ARC.
