I was perusing the Oregon Firearms Federation website (the head of OFF is a friend of mine) and found this story. It's an interesting read, and I thought the folks at THR might like it.

Life sucks when you do the right thing and the end result is bad.

That lawyer who did not take her case against him ought to be spread around the net as a great guy.

I guess the moral of this story is chose your friends carefully. She WAS a whore, in spirit if not in body.

It's a shame the guy had such a struggle with his conscience.

In general, if someone claims he has a gun, is going to kill everyone in the house, proceeds to bash in the window, and reaches into his pants, I'm going to believe him, every single time.

That is absolutely true.

Like a lot of nice guys I suspect the protaganist in this tragedy had a bit of a complex about wanting to rescue a damsel in distress. This clouds good judgment. All too often is seems that no good deed goes unpunished.

Gotta agree with GWA45, if someone threatens to come with a gun and kill you and then breaks into your house, you are within reason to assume he really has a gun and wants to kill you.

Here's my 2 cents. I can't understand why he was upset about having killed a felow who threatened him, broke a window of the house that he was at & reached under his coat for a gun. I always figured that the people who felt guilty afterwards were just idiots in movies like "Tombstone".

I agree 900% that you should be careful about choosing friends. I have very few but those few people are under my protection when needed.

I also agree that you should have a lawyer on hand ready to call 3 seconds after you pull the trigger.

My work entails a bit of driving every week. I get to listen to Rush sometimes, and Dr. Laura. Dr. L wisely cautions us "knight in shining armor" types AGAINST rescuing Damsels in distress, by asking "After you rescue a damsel in distress, what do you get?"

A distressed damsel.

Think about it. Choose your battles wisely.

Choose your friends and where you go wisely, too. It's better to not be in a spot where a battle will come to you, regardless of your wishes. Situational awareness can profit you precious little once you're surrounded, so to speak.
