I wonder if hi-point will sell rear sight units. that's a pretty slick sight.

I've hear good things about the High point from time to time, maybe sarcasm, but the one thing that detracts me from it, is that its not capable of holding more than 10 rds. The Cobray and the Tec-9 I think is a better choice. :D

I like the Tec 9 also.;)

tec-9? Gah.
the only thing the tec 9 has going for it is its appearance in big trouble in little china.

All of the Tec-9's I have seen were jam-o-matics. Most guys spent more time trying to clear the action than actually shooting the gun.
I sometimes question "Gun Tests" accuracy is the reason I am no longer a subscriber. It would still be a Ruger for me over a "Hi Point".

High point carbine vs Ruger PC-9? Yeah, I'd buy a Hi-point too. But there are still better deals than their handugns.

I actually own a Ruger PC9, and a Hi-Point 9mm Carbine along with a pre-ban Colt AR15 in 9mm. Ok, since we are counting I also own a Sten subgun in 9mm (it is kind of a carbine).
Anyway, if I had it to do all over again, I would buy the Hi-Point, no question about it. In my opinion (which is not wild speculation, but instead personal experience), I don't see any advantage what so ever to the Ruger or Colt. Therefore, it makes sense to me that I couldn't justify spending considerably more money for somthing that I don't think is better. Heck I see those AR15s going for $1600. I have never conducted a serious benchrest side by side test, but I don't notice that the AR15 is any more accurate than the Hi-Point dispite the fact that it is selling for about $1400 more money.

Thanks for the PDF link, Boing.
I wouldn't mind having a Hipoint carbine, as they are not as "aesthetically challenged" as their handguns, but I simply would have no pride of ownership... heck, I would be practically embarrased to be caught with one at the range by anyone I know.
One the other hand, I'd more likely have it on me if needed, as I certainly wouldn't throw a pretty Ruger carbine in the back of the Jeep as readily as I would a Highpoint.

There's a clash of the titans for ya.
Well, I suppose Car & Driver occasionally does "Kia Optima versus Hyundai Sonata: Which is the better low-buck grocery getter?" tests, too. ;)

444---why would you pay $1500 for a AR15 when you can buy them for $600-$900.........are you posting about a AR15 in 223 or 9MM, because you are paying way too much for a 9MM if you are paying $1500..........and no way is a hi-point more accurate than a AR15........my hi-point is accurate but no way close to my AR15 in 223............My point is why would anyone buy a AR15 in 9MM when they can get a 223????????.....I also think this thread is about the hi-point pistols anyway.............

Jem read it again. You will not find a PRE BAN COLT for $900.
EDIT: Long day, short patience.

Well I currently own the Hi-Point Carbine and the KelTec Sub Rifle, I have shot the Ruger numerous times. I'm not going to say whether one is more accurate than the other because I'm no pro, but for the money you can't go wrong with the Hi-Point. I have had ZERO problems after over 1000 rounds using factory mags, I haven't heard anything good about the aftermarket mags so I haven't bought any. Hi-Point makes these things the way they do so that any American, rich or poor can afford to exercise their god given rights. Way to go Hi-Point!

This thread is interesting in that the Hi-Point haters will no doubt see the review as an ill conceived test by a bunch of incompetent boobs.Had the Ruger been the clear winner,it would have been seen by those same Hi-Point haters as proof that Hi-Points are worthless garbage.:banghead:

TheLastBoyScout........youre right.....should have paid more attention to what he wrote........still hard to figure out why anyone would pay $1500 for a 9MM even if it is pre-ban....I bought my hi-point carbine for a plinker because it was cheap and the ammo was also cheap.....How we got off the subject of handguns to carbines is beyond me anyway..........I saw some hi-point 9MM handguns for sale at a gun show Saturday for $179...I guess you just buy 2 or 3 and throw them in the river when they malfunction, but, hell the Mississippi would be full of hi-points if we did that, and the water level would go up........Just a joke, Tropical, I know you just love the damn things......haha.......

Actually, I believe he is talking about 9mm Carbines since this thread is in the rifle section of the board.
As was mentioned, my Colt 9mm carbine was pre-ban and was NIB. I didn't pay $1600 for it, but I see them advertised for that and more.
Why would anyone buy a 9mm AR15 when they can buy a .223 ? You say that like I had to make a choice between them and could only own one or the other. I am an AR15 fanatic. I believe that I currently own nine or ten of them. All are 5.56 except two. I have a .458 Socom upper, and a 9mm Carbine. I intend to get a .22LR upper also. I had a couple reasons for buying the 9mm AR. One was that I thought it was cool and had the money. Another is that I can handload 9mm for very low cost and I can crank them out by the thousands with my progressive loader. Therefore I can shoot a rifle with the same controls and the same dimensions as my other ARs for less money. Yet another reason is that I intend to register the lower as a short barreled rifle so it looks just like my buddies Colt submachine gun. I am not willing to spend the money on an actual Colt subgun, but I like the look of it. Finally, the last reason is that after registering it as an SBR, I am going to add a suppressor. The 9mm suppressor is more effective than a suppressor in .223 and allows you to shoot full velocity ammo that isn't supersonic. All that being said, I am also going to register one of my .223 ARs as an SBR and also suppress it just because I can.
As for accuracy, again as I stated in my previous post, I never took them both to a range and shot them off a benchrest with sandbags for accuracy, but I haven't noticed in practical use that one is significantly more accurate than the other. I can tell you that with the loads I have tried, neither one is even in the same league as my .223 ARs.
Sorry to get off topic, but was just going with the flow.

Hi Point carbines are great for the money. But the handguns...well...they still stink.

damn must be drinking again ...........well, anyway, check out the Wilson website for a carbine conversion kit for the 1911.......expensive, but, probably very accurate and for that kind of money it had better be.........$340......bull barrel, kind of hard to tell how long the stainless steel barrel is, but, I would guess at least 15-16".............all you have to do is take off the slide on your 1911, put on the kit and replace the link pin and use the pistol mags you have.........looks interesting.....
