I'm knife shopping for a buddy and was looking for suggestions. He wants:

1. Assisted opening
2. Blade around 3" or less
3. Combo blade

I'n his blade he wants in order:
1. Edge retention
2. Corrosion resistance
3. Ease of resharpening

He's on school for landscape architecture adn will be using the knife to open mulch, cut ropes, etc. He said it'd also be used fishing, camping, adn hiking. Will basically be a do it all knife. The knife needs to be pretty tough as he said he can be hard on them.

Pretty sure assisted opening isn't a huge requirement but he does want it to be easy to open if his hands are full with something.

Budget is $30-50 right now.

In that price range the Columbia River Koji Hara Ichi assisted opening folder comes closest to meeting your buddy's needs. www.crkt.com/outburst.html
CRKT also has an extensive folder selection.
You can but them at www.knifecenter.com/knifecenter/crk/

I second Pawcatch's choice. CRKT makes a fine knife for the money, I have been carrying them as work blades for years, I use and abuse them and have never had one fail in any way. The only reason I have replaced them is due to loss. you cant go wrong with a CRKT.

Check out the Camillus line of assisted openers, heat, blaze, sizzle and dominator. The dominator is the expensive one but the others are a great deal as well.. I have the blaze and I have been very happy with it.

While I'm a big proponent of CRKT knives I can't recommend their assisted openers yet. I've experienced some QC problems with them.

In that price range the Heat would do well for you friend.
