Hello, need help:

My friend has a new Smith Mod 99. The magazine drops out after each shot. This has occured repeatedly, with three factory magazines and has been sent back to Smith twice but it 'does not occur' when they shot it under different stances, etc.

Has anyone had this happen to them? Do they have a fix? What causes this?

We are waiting to see if this happens with a different shooter but we already know the Smith people can't duplicate this.

The shooter needs to adjust his grip, as he his inadvertently pressing the mag release during recoil of firing.

Or maybe as simple as a stronger mag release button spring or defective mag catch.

You are correct, had I seen JR holding his pistol sooner I would have caught this sooner. His large finger was indeed triggering the mag release. Part of the problem was that he was hooking his finger around the trigger instead of using the pad of his finger.

NAMDOC, you're very welcome. That is a very common, but seldom admitted, problem with many folks. I've even done it myself with certain pistols and it's very annoying to someone who doesn't realize they're doing it.
