Take-out bullets?

I live in SE Pennsylvania and just started reloading last year. So far I've bought all my bullets and most of my brass from mail-order/internet places (Midway, National, etc.). Two of the better-stocked gun stores I go to (both with on-site ranges) usually have a few dozen bags of "once-fired" brass on hand which I guess they sweep up every so often. My question is does anyone here actually live near a retailer that carries a real selection of bullets for reloaders?

p.s. The powder selection at these places actually seems pretty decent and primers by the brick are no problem, so no hazmat surcharges yet.

Well, depends on what you consider a "real" selection. My local dealer has a pretty decent selection of cast bullets, but not a lot of jacked bullets. Over the hump in Las Vegas there are numerous gun dealers who sell bullets, so you might have to shop around for what you want but between them all there is a decent selection. The gun shows are another source of bullets. There are always a few tables there that have a pretty good selection of bullets. Then again, it depends on what you want. They arn't going to have the selection that Midway has.
But, to be honest with you, I mail order the vast majority of my bullets. Most neighborhood dealers can only afford to stock the most popular bullets. I mean if I want a 150 grain .30 softpoint, that is no big deal. But if I want a 150 grain, .30 Fail Safe, I will probably have to order something that specific; but you never know.

Around me I can pay through the nose for jacketed bullets, pay more than they are worth for crappy cast bullets, cast my own, or buy mail order. I cast my own and mail order the rest.

Hey Ed,

I'm from out west of you in the big city of Dillsburg, PA, and I am wondering just what kind and caliber of bullets you are looking for. I also cast a number of bullets myself, and I buy a number of jacketed bullets in bulk. I buy surplus powders in gallon jugs at times, and I also buy new powder in gallon jugs from Shyda's in Leganon at times. If you care to E-Mail me, I would be glad to give you some ideas on suppliers.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile
