Walther P22- Do they still have issues?

I'm considering getting one of these for my son (10 years old).
A year or two ago, I saw a ton of threads that basically trashed this little pistol. Wondering if they have gotten better, fixed their assorted issues?
Any input- let me know. Thanks!

I bought one about a year ago. No issues other than the barrel nut kept working loose so I put a dab of blue loc-tite on it. My wife really likes the size. safety and mag release leave a lot to be desired IMHO.
If you get one with a -A on mag part number you should be OK.
http://pho3nixserver.no-ip.org/p22/p22fixes.html has a list of many of the issues and their fixes.

Mine's not crap. Not a whole bunch of gun for the $,but it works great and is fun to plink with.Everyone I know with smaller hands:kids and ladies, love it.It doesn't like Remington bulk pack or Blazer but there are plenty of other cheap rounds that it gobbles up as well as any other .22 RF auto, namely Winchester Wildcat and Federal.

Very good gun, my wife and her friend love shooting it. I love shooting it.
The mags are fine now. The only other complaint I heard was people releasing the mag while shooting, they project their finger too far through the guard to accomplish this.
Use CCI Mini Mag ammo, I have fired 1250 rounds in 6 weeks, not one problem.
Get the gun, it's perfect for a kid.

I've had mine for 2 years and shoot 4-500 rounds a month with it. Hi-velocity, hi-velocity, hi-velocity! Doesn't like the slower (more $$) target stuff. I can usually shoot 150 rounds before it starts to jam. Just a cleaning issue. My friend's S&W 22A would behave exactly like this, too. It's a fun gun!! I also Loc-Tite'd my barrel nut.

You need to visit Rimfire Central and check out the numerous posts dedicated to teh Walther P22. There are guys on there who are experts and will get anything working for you. Mine was great out of the box, started to have problems, and how works great again. It is a fun gun, way more fun that most other .22s I've shot. Get one and have a blast.

My P22 has worked fine from the beginning. I use both long and short barrels. It is not ammo sensitive.
I am troubled by people who use terms like crap or POS without giving specific criticism or supporting experience. Do these people actually own or use the gun?

About a year ago I purchased a Limited Edition P22. It came with both barrels and a nice carrying case. At the time I did some research to find out if you could tell by the serial numbers which ones were the best (latest). What I came up with and subsequently purchased was to make sure the gun’s prefix had an “N”, and the magazines had a suffix of “A”…
I've been very happy with my little P22. It's only drawback is that is is ammo specific, but then I am too!

Bought one about a year and a half ago. I've put about 10K rounds through it without a problem since it was new. Apparently some folks have problems with them, mine has been flawless.
The only thing I don't like is the trigger, it's a design issue, just not very smooth, but my other guns are 1911's and Hipowers, so I'm pretty picky about triggers.
If I were buying again I probably wouldn't buy the P22, there's some other new .22's on the market that are attractive, but mine has been fine for what it is. It's a good training gun for the wife and kids, but I can't shoot it accurately enough to be really happy with it.

Mine likes CCI mini-mags and puts them into very small groups. It feeds and functions with Remington Vipers, but not so accurate, and is much dirtier ammo.

Who finds the grip excellent. Now I want to try a 99 with the smallest grip option. :D

Usually get at least one mal. per mag.
Can't hit anything with them.
Safety lever broke for no good reason.
All three are inaccurate
All three have been unreliable
etc.
One particular one has been back to Walther three times (still doesn't work).
Compared to
CZ Kadet
Trailside
Ruger
Browning
Beretta
etc.
they are inferior.
There are many other better 22 pistols out there.
I will unequivocably state that with the exception of my dad's RG10, they are the biggest piece of carap I have ever shot.

I have one. Only two issues:
1) Feed it only Remington 22lr in the "brick". It is made for that ammo.
2) I bought the short barrel, and tried swapping out to the larger barrel. The little plastic snout for the longer barrel kept slidding around - even after trying to glue it.
I would suggest doing the short barrel, and forget about swapping back and forth between barrels. A bad system.
