So I picked on up at the local gun show cuz I thought they'd be cool. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet because of the fact that nobody has any ammo for it. Everybody is sold out wondering if they'll even get more. Anybody know anything about 5.7x28mm ammo? I had heard it was all armor piercing, but I was under the impression that civilians can't own anything armor piercing, legally. I just want to know if any of you know how easy/hard it will be to get ammo in the future. I'm hoping that the demand for it was under rated.

On another note, has anybody shot one? Are they accurate?

I see the civilian HP ammo all over the place in SE Pennsylvania. It goes for $18-25 for a 50 rnd box.

The thing I don't get, is if the average penetration is around 9 inches for the round out of the pistol, how would it do much damage after going through a vest? I mean, if you put a level 2 or 3 vest infront of the geletin, I could easily see that the penetration would only be 3 to maybe 6 inches. And balistics gelatin doesn't have hard stuff like bone, so I don't see how the 5.7 round would actually go through a vest and through something like your sternum.

for the non-frag rounds When it hits soft stuff it upsets and tumbles.
Penetration depth does not go hand in hand with velocity. The AP round punches through hard stuff then tumbles dumping all of it energy.
An example would be a full power 10mm JHP. Very fast bullet but because of this speed its almost guaranteed to expand and transfer all it's energy into the target.

The 5.7x28 is a very efficient energy dumping round

Square trigger guard I guess. After looking at pics on the net, it looks as if it's the USG model. I got an IOM model book though....guess I should call and get the right one for it.

The factory ammo to me is a bit Lame.
I was a little disapointed when I shot my USG for the first time. The 195LF just goes through stuff, the 196 was a little more fun.
The thing I like most is it's a pistol with 20 rounds.
But then again I have spoiled my self with my hand loads.
My rounds are a lot more fun. Like a 22WMR rifle on Crack.
You can reload for this round, here are a few things I cooked up.
From left to right: standard SS196, 45gr SP, 33gr TNT Hp (fully frags targets), 40gr HP, 40gr Nozler/Winchester combotech, That last one with the green tip is just known as "other".
Now every thing I use to load 5.7 is moly coated.
Soon I will have a tracer round, 55gr ballistic tip and 55gr FMJ-BT, as soon as I load them. Have the primed sized brass and thousands of red tip tracers, some fmj's and B-tips. Those will crank up the fun level to a new notch.
