I’m just starting out in comp shooting and would like to try both IDPA and IPSC. I have a Glock M22 and a strong left hand. I need some advice on carry gear. Can someone recommend a belt, holster and mag pouch of good quality that wont break the bank? I’m hoping to get all three for under $150. Thank you for your help.

You are going to need more than two magazines on your belt for IPSC. Get more mag carriers for that, but two are all that is allowed in IDPA.

Gunner's Alley has fine products at fair prices but you may get better advice from your local shooters at your local matches. Decide how much carryover you really need to have and how much convenience you want to buy. IDPA isn't going to permit velcro with an overbelt anytime soon. Likely a good belt from Gunner's Alley/Beltman and a holster for each sport with shared magazine carriers will work as well as anything to start.

personally, I like Fobus mag pouches.. they work great.. as far as their holsters, I absolutely hate.. too tight, non adjustable.

Holster, I'd look at kydex.. blade-tech, sidearmor, comptac, or even the uncle mikes kydex belt holster.

for just starting out try the Glock brand of holster and mag pouch. the holster(which is ambi by the way) is about $10 and the mag pouches are also about the same price. they are all built of a really tough "tactical" plastic and mine have lasted many IDPA matches. not fancy, but servicable and if you don't persue comp then they make adequate carry gear.

http://comp-tac.com/ has holsters that are good for IDPA or production USPSA (look for the speed paddle and locking paddle). They also have single and double mag pouches.

A good kydex holster (like a blade-tech or comptac) will serve in both sports. A straight drop is probably faster (in IDPA you cannot have the muzzle canted forward, but you can have it canted back). A good one (which has tension adjustments and is made of sturdier kydex, will probably run 50-75 bucks. For IDPA you will need two mag holders and two more (at least) for uspsa. If you search ebay you for "glock magazine holders" you will find a guy out of georgia who sells single kydex holders in pairs. They are made of thinner kydex, but they are a great deal (I bought four of them from him for my CZ 75 for 28 bucks shipped) finally you will need a gun belt (assuming you do not have one already) Galts sells a nice aker belt for about 40 bucks which should do the trick and be legal for both sports.
Go and talk to fellow shooters at a match is good advice. see what they are using, but also see why they are using it. sometimes what works for one person doesn't work for everyone.

I agree with those that recommended Blade-Tech or Comp-Tac. Keep in mind it will save you money to get the right holster first as opposed to having a drawer full of holsters you hate.

Truer words were never spoken! Wish I had read this 15 holsters ago! Now looking at 15 + 1, and hopefully the end of the line - a Comp-Tac.

I must admit, I do use a blade-tech for IPDA. If I had to spend the money over again it would not have bought it. For about $120 you can get a VERY nice rig from Don Hume. Belt slide holster, belt, and double mag pouch. Best of all it looks and wears much nicer than plastic. I am a firm believer in practicing with what you carry and I would much rather have a nice leather set-up.
