What to Buy-'03 Springfield or rare Finn M39?

I will have the ability to buy 1 new rifle in the next month or 2, and I've got my heart set on something with a bit of history attached to it. I can buy either an '03 through the CMP, or a rather rare variant of the Finn M39 (which is rather rare to begin with). On top of the relative rarity, the M39 that I've got my eye on was made pre-1899, so it won't require a 4473 or other record keeping by the seller.

Other facts: I have a Garand, but no '03. I have another M39.

OK, what would you do?

Tough call.

From what I've seen and heard, the 1903s the CMP has left are in pretty rough shape compared to the Garands and the last 1903A3s. If you get an 03, I'd expect to rebarrel it. The ones I saw at the Western Games in Nov were ok as far as finish goes. Wood is average. But the muzzles were swalling the gauges.

I really can't speak for you. I love M39s and I love the US Service Rifles.

Go with what your gut tells you.

[Personally, I'd get the 1903.]

I would get the 03 in a heart beat.

Get the Finn.
Far fewer were made, and the value is going to climb precipitously.
I got mine today. :)
Where are you getting that one, incidentally? Do they have more?
