Refinishing the XD

I'm thinking of refinishing my XD9 Service with Springfield's Army Kote. I've heard a few stories about the XD9's finish not being as robust as some other pistol's finishes. So, I figured that I'd take the necessary precautions and hopefully do what I can to avoid potential rust problems. Does anyone know exactly what Springfield's Army Kote is and if it helps avoid rust? I know that some people recommend Duracoat over Springfield's Army Kote (which can be found here: http://www.lauerweaponry.com/ ). I just didn't know if this voided the warranty or if anyone has had it done. I know about Robar's finishes too. I just wanted to take the cheapest route to obtain the necessary results (dont we all?). Thanks in advance.

I got my SAR-1 refinished by MAC's and he did a great job. Turnaround time was about 1 week and he offers a lifetime rust free warranty I've also read on the XD forums that he does good work on XD slides. I believe he uses gunkote over parkerizing and a auto pistol slide is $37 http://www.shootiniron.com/

hmmmm.... That looks interesting. But does anyone know if duracoat a similar process? If it is, it seems to be just as good for somewhat less. http://www.xd-hs2000.com/duracoat.html

is there a problem with the factory finish on your gun? if there is, it's my understanding that springfield will refinish it for you for free; if there's not, just take care of it and it should hold up fine for a long time to come. from what i've observed, xds either rust at the drop of a hat, or not at all.

it's hard to get cheaper than simply following best practices until free refinishing is necessary. :)

Yup, they are a great company.

Call them and inquire.
