View Full Version : CA/AZ THR SHOOT

Hey everyone, I'd like to plan another California/Arizona THR shoot at Adair, in Yuma.
Who is up for it?
sumpnz
March 28th, 2006, 03:28 PM
Depends heavilly on when. My wife is due at the end of May, so anytime May 27 +-3 weeks is out for me. Between now and T-3 weeks will depend on my wife's homework load for that given weekend. After T+3 weeks it'll be way to hot to shoot until Sept/Oct anyway. Besides, ammo budget is pretty constrained right now. I can load up plenty of 6.5x55 ammo, but .4x pistol ammo is pretty much all gone and not likely to be replaced any time soon.

It took us a few months to get everyone together last time. I'm fine with shooting for sometime in September. It isn't that far away.

I am still new to the shooting world. By the time sept. come around I will have a rifle. If we can just get something planed out, then it sounds good. My girlfriend has some fam. that lives in Yuma, so one more reason to go :)

What range is that you guys are planning on going to? I still don't have any leads for a potential Riflemans/Appleseed shoot for AZ/CA/NV.
I have been given some ideas for a NV location in Vegas that sounds promising, but would love to have an AZ option on the table as well.
I'm in San diego, I see a few of you are as well, hopefully we can get Fred and the gang at RWVA to come out and host a riflemans shoot further west than Texas!

That sounds good to me, sounds like we just need someone to set a date! 2nd or 2rd weekend would work good for me, I think if we can get a date set around 3-4 weeks in advance that would be perfect. I dont have much to bring, a .22 ruger, and a HOWA 1500 in .223, might beable to snag a handgun or two from my folks. Like I said sooner we can get this hammered out the better, but count me in!

Anyone in the San Diego area who wants to caravan out there, let me know. I'd offer rides, but my car is full.

December 15-16, Yuma, AZ, Adair shooting range.
Bring guns, ammo, food, and a place to sleep.

Bear - Boy? Girl? Waiting to find out? How's Ellie holding up? Haven't seen her posting on here in a while ('course I've been lurking more than posting lately anyway).
Wish I could make it, but I'll be hard pressed the way things are going to get to the national THR get together. I was going to go to the F1 race in Indy next June, but unless I start doing a lot of business travel to get a free plane ticket that ain't gonna happen either.

October 11th, 2006, 02:56 PM
There are multiple ranges, including four or five pistol ranges, and a very large 1000 yard rifle range. Last year, we all arrived after dark Friday evening, and camped in an open area off the road, within the range grounds. The caretaker didn't mind. We'll probably camp in the same spot this year. We didn't start shooting until Saturday morning.
TheArchDuke
October 11th, 2006, 03:04 PM
Last year we camped out off of the side of the road right outside of the range grounds. It was literally just a little dirt area under a tree with a fire pit. We all slept in our cars or on the ground. This year I might bring a tent because it was FREEZING (I "slept" on the open tailgate of my brother's truck).
Here's a picture of the camp area (from dasmi's photo gallery):
http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/bd9fec239e.jpg (http://sixforsure.org/sight/main.php?g2_itemId=530/)
And here's a view of the range:
http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/c6498d6440.jpg (http://sixforsure.org/sight/main.php?g2_itemId=530/)
I might be wrong but I think there were about three or four ranges like that all laid out next to eachother and separated by those dirt mounds.
Hope that helps.

Hey I just posted a few days ago on the SD yahoo board that y'all should go out to Yuma again. I didn'I make the last trip, sadly, and I definitely won't be able to go this year.
Too bad the R/C Aircraft strip is so far from the trap/skeet range.
Not too far away, just a ways off of 95, is an abandoned NG 100 yard range. Before you get to it, there is an R/C airfield that makes the one at Adair look silly. The nice thing about the one at Adair, obviously is that it is close and free, but the one just down the way is sweet, indeed.
Here are directions, (And if you keep driving around that area you can find the NG range and some fun off-roading. No sense shooting at the NG range, when Adair is so close, though.) Also if you continue west from Adair, there is some nice off-roading, (Though a bit hairy, might want to take 2 4x4s.)
Hope y'all have a blast at Adair and take more pics.

ok cool, sounds good, a tent and a ice chest full of food, and lots of ammo. Can do, just wondering, would it be possible for someone to maby post a cell number, or something, so if someone has a hard time getting there. If you all feel uncomfortable with that, that is fine. I just dont want to get down there late at night as get lost, lol.

Sounds good. I will talk to the rest of my crew and we will probably be in.
I have a few camp stoves if you would like me to bring them (most are white gas/dual fuel). But it seems silly to drag firewood all the way from los angeles.
Also, if anyone is interested in meeting up/caravaning from the LA/OC area drop me a private and I'll see if we can work something out.

Hi
Adair Range is a pretty nice facility. Is there still a meet that may take place there this NOV. or DEC. ? I'd like to have some more info, see if I can go. Tentatively I have events on the 11th (Orosco Ridge clean-up in Ramona, CA, a biannual event done in the hopes of keeping THE ONLY open shooting area in San Diego county. One was just shut down in Riverside co. due to trashing.), and on the 17th a 'turkey shoot' at the Lake Wolford/Escondido Fish & Game facility. Either or both are probably ditchable
Anyone into the 1K range? I want to try out extended distance targets (400yd. +). I hear there is a plate at 1K, but have never seen it.
What about self-contained rv or car camping at the facility, or closeby? I've seen campers on or close to the facility along side the road in the past.
How does one contact the range master at Adair, aside from stopping at the trailer?
Is tannerite ok at Adair?
Thanks
dasmi
October 19th, 2006, 07:19 PM
There is another range in San Diego, out in Jacumba. I shoot there often.
I believe tannerite is A-OK at adair, but don't quote me.
If you want to attend the upcoming meet, you're in the right place. Read the other posts in this thread for the details.

Last year we talked to the range officer and they offered that area up to us to camp for the night. There wasn't anywhere else to camp on or near the range. Should still be able to do the same barring no change to the range rules or any turnover on personnel running the range.
I plan on going again this year as well. Will bring some Mule deer for the grill since I scored one last week.
The BHP is no longer in the collection. I decided to clear my collection of 9MM's and used it to purchase a .44 mag hunting rig for hogs.
Here's a short list of attendees from my gun safe;
Glock 20
Kimber Pro Carry II
Springer Mil-Spec
Springer XD-9 (Springerman's gun)
Ruger SRH .44 Mag
Oly AR-15
SKS
Ruger 10-22
Shotties if someone has a bird chucker.
Finding the range off of I-8 is not difficult. Once you get off of the interstate on 95N just press on for about 6 miles or so. The law was out giving tickets so be careful with speed. You'll see an old steel bridge on the left side of the road. Shortly after that the turn off will be on the left. We actually camped just north of the metal bridge last year if my memory serves me correct.

My wife and I get off work Friday at 4pm and should be able to leave by 5pm or shortly after. We live near the 51 and 101 in north Phoenix. Anyone want to drive together from there or meet up along the way?
I mapped it online and it's approx. 200 miles (estimated 3.5 hour drive), but I'm guessing going west on I-10 to get out of town won't be fun. Should arrive between 9 and 10pm.
