Moderator out of line

If I have a complaint that I think any certian moderator is too quick in their decisions to close threads and make what I think are bad decisions, what can I or other members do about it?
I know these guys put in a lot of hours for the benefit of all of us, and I appreciate that. It just seems that I keep noticing one moderator who seems to have little patience, but lots of power to lock up a discussion. Is there a process to discuss this without my getting banned from using the forum?
I'd rather leave it the way it is than to not get to come here at all, but I think there is room for improvement.
thanks

Ans: Take it offline. Use Private Messages rather than public postings to discuss such situations. (This is answer to your question, NOT a rude comment.)
Good shooting and be safe.

I would log in as another user and just blast away. PM me for Standing Wolf or El Tejon or Lobotomy Boy's passwords.

It is preferred one PM( contact in private/ off forum) the moderator(s) in which they seek information as to why a thread was closed , or any other questions.
Staff and Mods are human, and yes they have a life outside of forum duties. Staff and Mods here on THR are receptive to civil private exchanges in regard to questions, concerns or problems.
Please do refer to Forum Rules, Conduct and THR Mission Statements, which you agreed to upon registration, to assist with any posting questions if need.

UUmmmm.....Shermacman....that is not a valid solution, that is fraud. Or you do have multiple accounts? That is defeinitely a not a solution. That is also not the High Road way. Get another person blamed for it? That is wrong....If you say it, then you should accept the consequences.....or is personal responsiblity a thing of the past?

I'm a veteran of several vBulletin forums and this one is the best modded and has the least deleted threads that I have experienced.
I think there are a lot of deleted threads recently as there are a lot of threads being started about the immigration issue, these should be condensed into 2 or 3 threads as is currently the case. I didn't come here to argue about politics, I can do that here (www.***.com).
The other deleted threads were just repostings of previously discussed 'funny' videos, again not what most of us are here for.
I have far more pressing concerns this evening, my wife has her bonus and is unsure if she should buy me a Glock 34.

Folks,
Even though I am on spring break, I am still doing IT studies. I come here to take a break from e-labs learning/ practicing configuring routers - not to configure fellow members.
The Internet is Public, Globally Public. THR is viewed from all over the world and by those that do not agree with THRs Misson Statement. THR is viewed by those sitting on the fence , not sure to be part of us, or against us.
Now I like to joke and kid around on this site as much as anyone. Sometimes I admit I poke fun at those against us. Still use good taste best can, to get fence sitters to think.
Now recently some laws in regard to internet postings and behavior have been discussed here. Always been common courtesy to use internet forum etiquette.
WE take care of our own laundry and we do so in Private [PM] not in public view.
I asked the orginal poster be PM-ed in regard to his questions and asked this entire thread be deleted.

Derek,
You have got to be kidding.
Just for the record, I do not have SW's personal password.
Good Lord.

Ha!
Ya got me!
Ever wondered why SW's post count is so high?! It was me!
Ever wondered why LB's posts were so bizarre?! Me, again!

Shermacman -- were you on the grassy knoll, too? :D
Depicts -- start with a PM to the moderator in question, asking for an explanation. If that doesn't work, you can always take it up with Oleg, whose site this is.

This seems to be a bit of a touchy subject, so I'm glad I was just bringing it up in a curious sort of way, with no specific complaint.
I'm sure that PM'ing a moderator who I think is quick on the trigger, and telling them so, wouldn't result in any sort of pay back.
Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky. Wait, change that, I AM getting old and cranky :)
For the most part this is a very well run forum. I couldn't do it any better and I sure couldn't have gotten it off the ground. I guess I give more leeway to humor than I should. When I think of it in light of people all over the world reading these posts, and maybe not understanding the subtlties of slang and lingo, I should reconsider.
Glad to have a place like this to spend time in.

No, it actually wouldn't. THR policy is that private messages are between you and the recipient, not between you and the rest of the board. Annoying a moderator is not a banning offense (if it were ... well, I'm pretty sure most of us have a private little wish list ... but we don't work that way).
The narrow exception to this is that if a moderator contacts a member via PM about the member's violation of the rules on the public board and the response is very unpleasant. This is because the behind-the-scenes warnings serve two purposes. The first purpose of course is to simply let the member know if their posts were out of line. A lot of people simply don't know when they've drifted into a rules violation, so we try to give them the benefit of the doubt and not be too quick on the trigger. But the other purpose of PM contact is to do an attitude check. Someone who broke the rules on purpose, and is belligerent/unrepentant about it, is likely to do so again and again. In such cases, a swift banning is in order, for the sake of the other members on THR who don't come here to deal with unpleasantness.
But apart from that very narrow circumstance, whatever you say to a moderator in private won't get you in trouble. People only get in trouble on THR for their public posts.

"I'm a veteran of several vBulletin forums and this one is the best modded and has the least deleted threads that I have experienced."
That is absolutely true. The only threads I've seen deleted had grown so long that they repeated themselves several times. I don't see the moderators here being overbearing or assuming expertise.(well one does seem to have an unduly high opinion of his ethical presence and tactical expertise-but he's easily ignored.) They generally add substantially to any discussion. Recently, I did post something that offended one of the moderators sensibilities. He very wisely contacted my by PM and I immediately deleted the post.
