thoughts and opinions on this weapon, please?

Its suppose to be the "fix all" 21st century replacement for the
time tested Smith & Wesson model 19~!

I looked at them and they just aren't much lighter than a stainless gun. Now, if they would make something big-bored in a design like that, I might get interested. As it is, I am waiting for my Smith stocking dealer special 686 to fill that gap.

I was never aware my 19 was broke. personally i always liked the K frames better than the Ls, but it isn't like there is much choice now. I would like to see a 3" though.

The new one according to sm they are great, and i would like a 3"

Like Brian, I thought you were referring to the "classic" model 520, which is basically a .38-44 in .357 Magnum.

I give the updated version two thumbs down....

Quite frankly, I believe that the older NYPD service model 520 would be
a better find. This new weapon does not have the looks, feel, or appeal
that either the 520; or its older counterpart the model 19 has~!:( Its
a steel frame gun with titanium cylinder; so what is so special a'bout
that?:eek:

I don't care for the new 520 at all. But, I just bought a new S&W 619 and a 620 and they are really first rate guns. The actions were fine out of the box (actually better than S&W Performance Center actions), they are both 7-shot revos and all stainless steel. The 619 with fixed sights shot POA with a wide variety of ammo while the 620 sights actually required some adjustment. These guns are very worthy replacements for the Models 19, 66 and 67. Best of all, I paid less than $500. for each;)

I just checked out a used 619 that came through the local shop. I didn't buy it, but in spite of MIM this and FMFP that and The Lock, I have to say that the action on that revolver was truly about as good as current PC revolvers, maybe better. It was just short of exceptional. I don't know what they're doing with these in Springfield, but if they are all coming out of the box like this one they are doing something really right.

The seven shooters have nice, short trigger pulls too. They're easier to shoot well.

Now, if they'd only make a fixed-sight model with a three inch barrel and no underlug (just the nub to protect the ejector rod) they'd be onto something.

Personally, I love seven-shot .357s.

I meant to note that my recollection is that most S&W 686+ revolvers I've handled did not seem to have great triggers -- but as you say, the 519 is a 7-shot and the trigger was fantastic. A very pleasant surprise. Agree on the 3" tube, btw.

The 619 does not have a full underlug. Since it has the barrel and sleeve construction, I imagine we can't just have a gunsmith cut it down???:confused:
