$532,000 of our hard-earned tax dollars was given as a grant to help people, some of whom may be ILLEGAL immigrants, open their first bank account.

How nice!

I can't believe this stuff!

When will we, as taxpaying and hard-working US Citizens, DEMAND that this nonsense stops?

Just my 2 cents...

The only semi-rational words that came out of my mouth after reading this nearly blistered the paint off the living room walls.

What a total load of :cuss:!!!!!!!!!!

Our tax dollars being handed out to private industry with the goal of allowing illegal aliens to establish a foothold in our economy.

The words "treason" and "sedition" come to mind.

At this rate we might as well abolish the INS & USBP and just say "come on down!" to the entire planet.

We are on the verge of losing our National Sovereignty and crap like this is just proof that those traitors that would see our downfall are already in postions of power and working day and night to see that goal reached.

If you add to this the current policies of allowing illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition at colleges it gives you a truer picture of the climate infecting our government. My wife just incurred a 10-20% tuition hike this semester because the schools are getting pinched by the state budget deficits.

So, naturally we are going to allow illegals to pay those same rates that we, as tax payers, have to pay.:banghead:

For anyone who has not already read it, I recommend going down to the library and checking out Michelle Malkin's "Invasion". Deals with the political wheeling and dealing as well as the incompetence of the INS.

Scares me to think about the number of people coming into our country everyday with absolutely so scrutiny. I'm all in favor of controlled LEGAL immigration, but this thing of wide-open borders is just plain wrong.

I'd like to read that article (link doesn't work). But I can imagine the content. There's a serious disconnect, as we all know here, between the will of the people at large and the agendas of government. At some point the Silent Majority's going to have to get vocal or find their country taken away from them. Right now the converge of the Compassion mafia and the Anything-for-a-Buck mafia is killing this nation. It is going to take a mighty wind to turn this ship around.

I cannot find a new link to the article above, but I found a link to a related story where the government is giving almost $2,000,000 of our taxpayer money to banks in South Carolina to, it appears, help Mexicans in the US send money back to Mexico!

Outrageous!

Here is a quote:

"One of the ways in which we can do this is by working to lower the cost of sending money home. Last year, over $9 billion was sent by Mexicans and Mexican-Americans living in the United States to friends and family in Mexico. Nine billion dollars. This year, I am told, remittances will exceed $9 billion."

To help Mexicans send this money home, the US government is giving a GRANT of our tax dollars to the tune of about $2,000,000 to banks in South Carolina ALONE!

Outrageous!

Does it do our country any good to help immigrants send US $$$ out of the country?

Here's the story from the orginal link:

Credit union program aimed at Hispanic customers

By LINDA ASHTON

Associated Press Writer

YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - Three credit unions in Eastern Washington are the first to participate in a program to bring some of the state's estimated 250,000 ''unbanked'' Hispanic immigrants into mainstream financial institutions.

The Economic Power Project is aimed at Hispanic immigrants in Washington, California, Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Nevada and American Indians in Montana and North Dakota, said Marilyn Jarmon, an administrator for the Washington Credit Union League in Federal Way, which is coordinating the program.

''Many individuals in the Hispanic community are not using mainstream financial providers,'' Mark Neumann, president and chief executive officer for the Columbia Basin Federal Credit Union in Moses Lake, said Thursday.

That leaves some prey to businesses that charge exorbitant fees for cashing paychecks and making loans or offer poor exchange rates to people wiring money to family in countries such as Mexico.

''We all know many businesses that are taking advantage of people,'' said Polo Aguilera, vice president of Grupo Mexico, a statewide advocacy group for Latinos on issues of health, education, housing and justice.

The Columbia Basin Federal Credit Union, along with the Yakima Valley and Catholic credit unions here, are the three participants in the project, which provides free financial education in Spanish and English.

Jarman said the project, also known as Poder Economico, will be expanded to include credit unions in Spokane and in Western Washington.

''It's a very much needed service,'' said Alice Lara, a bilingual financial educator for the credit union league.

She's helping immigrants learn about everything from opening checking and savings accounts to establishing a credit history and getting a home loan.

The biggest challenge is getting people to make the move from the financial education classes to actually opening an account, said RoxAnne Kruger-Monahan, a Washington Credit Union League senior vice president.

''We want to help these individuals become 'banked,' whether they do it at a federally insured bank or a credit union,'' she said.

The multistate project is expected to get at least 14,000 people started with traditional banking.

Hispanics are the nation's fastest-growing population, and several financial institutions, including Wells Fargo Bank, U.S. Bank and Bank of America, have taken steps to attract Hispanic customers.

Immigrants in this country illegally are often reluctant to get involved with traditional banks and credit unions, and they typically don't have Social Security numbers or other required forms of identification.

''There are options for undocumented individuals,'' said David Grace, a spokesman for the Madison, Wis.-based World Council of Credit Unions.

One of them would be opening accounts that don't pay interest, he said.

Opening an account at the Catholic Credit Union requires two forms of ID, typically a driver's license and a Social Security number.

Alternatives include an individual tax identification number, issued by the Internal Revenue Service, and the matricula consular, an ID card available through Mexico's 45 consulates in the United States, including the one in Seattle, that shows a birthdate, address and current photograph.

''If people are without those, we're directing folks on how to obtain them,'' said Paul Regimbal, president of the Catholic Credit Union.

The 18-month program is funded by the U.S. Department of the Treasury with a $532,000 ''First Accounts'' grant.

From the second link:

They launched the Partnership to promote growth in the parts of Mexico where growth has lagged and fueled migration.

So the "logic" is that illegal immigrants already in the US will send money back to Mexico and in doing so will keep more illegal immigrants from coming to the US?

Er, um, er, :banghead:

"there are optons"?!?!? Yeah: go to jail, get sent home, and try making it across the border LEGALLY!!! What's the government plan on next: gun safety/practical pistol classes for drug dealers? Defensive driving courses for multiple DUI offenders? Sensual massage training for hookers?

We live in truly weird times.

We are fighting an expensive war in Iraq.

We are fighting an expensive war against terrorism.

Millions of US Citizens are out-of-work.

Our country has a multi-billion dollar deficit.

Our tax rates are super-high (think about it: income taxes,
SS taxes, Medicaid taxes, sales taxes, property taxes,
firearm taxes, etc., etc., etc.)...

Yet we give MILLIONS of DOLLARS in TAXPAYER FUNDED GRANTS to help ILLEGAL immigrants open bank accounts in the USA so they can send US dollars out of the country!

And this is just the tiny-tip of the iceberg!

Outrageous!

:cuss: :banghead: :cuss:

Are we nuts?

Are we insane?

Our government takes the votes of us hard working Americans for granted.

We must DEMAND an immediate stop to this nonsense!

Honestly, I have a really tough time caring about this one.

Our tax dollars are handed over to illegal immigrants? What else is new? Our tax dollars have been used to finance ill-intentioned, stupid, and evil government projects for decades. This is just another addition to the list.

Our tax dollars fund gun buy-ups, firearm registration databases, and import bans.

Out tax dollars are used to finance the FBI, DEA, BATF, and other unconstitutional federal agencies that exist soley to enforce illegal and unethical regulations.

Our tax dollars are handed over by the basketful to inefficent businesses in the form of subsidies and grants.

Our tax dollars are passed out like party favors amongst third-world dictators and IMF social engineers.

With all this in mind, you'll have to forgive me. I just don't think I can work up any additional bile.

The problem is not what program du jour our rulers are financing this week. The problem is the existence of taxes at all.

This one is small potatoes compared to what's on the way: the "integration" of U.S. Social Security with Mexico. You ain't seen nuthin' yet. We are going to be putting big chunks of Mexico on the dole de facto.

When the war euphoria subsides we'll see what Pres. Bush plans to do about "the Mexico problem." If it's more of the same, or worse, I think the clouds are going to gather. Frankly, I'm not very optimistic.

Within the last few days I saw a report on pending legislation in the Mexican legislature which would permit Mexican citizens to retain dual citizenship, oh, say with . . . the US for example.

Bush had better grow a pair and stand up to Senior Fox. It is getting out of hand. Trouble is, I don't think Bush and the rest of the ruling class realize there is considerable heartburn out here in flyover country.

Illegal immigration is one of the issues that clearly draws a line between the rulers and rulees.

Its the makings of revolution.

Bush doesn't realize there's an illegal immigration problem? Don't we all know that he wants the votes and that a lot of fellow Republicans want the cheap labor? I frankly see this issue as Bush's great Achilles' heel, capable of derailing not only his Presidency but the country's solidarity. He gets that righteous, het-up Bible thumper look when talks about Mexico-U.S. relations and we start hearing that dread word "compassion." I think the Social Security plan they're batting around behind closed doors has the potential to make or break his Administration. Right now, with the war capital he's accumulated he has the opportunity to take a gutsy step and come up with a new policy that permits "normalized" immigration but still safeguards our sovereignty. If he doesn't he will have only himself to blame for alienating a good deal of his constituency once they wake up to the enormity of this issue and its consequences.
