I just bought a Hensley & Gibbs X68 eight bullet mold. The guy I got it from says that it will cast 180 to 185 grain bullets depending on my alloy. It is a SWC with a flat base.
Anyone have suggestions for powder/loads?

Byron,
You will get many many loads for this bullet as it is one of the most popular 45 bullets ever and just about every mold maker has a version of it. My favorite load is 3.5gr of 700X with the full diameter part of the bullet seated down flush with the case trim. Quantrill

Byron, in all of my 5" guns the 185 requires me to run 85% to very near max loads OR drop down to a 14 pound recoil spring, a 12# works well also. Get them running properly with a 12# spring and they are super soft shooting, like 38WC from a heavy barrel K-frame. Bullseye, Red Dot, Clays and 700X are the most likely candidates. I prefer Clays for the bulk it gives and it is clean, but Red Dot smells SOOOO good and Bullseye is the standard 45 powder and.......

I've been working on a new softball load with this bullet. Something around 4.0 grains of Vita Vourhi (sp?) N310 works really and is a lot cleaner than Bullseye powder.
