What would be the cleanest burning ball powder for reloading .308? I have only used H335 nad H322. Anything cleaner?

I use Hodgdon Varget in 4 or 5 of my rifles and find it very clean burning. Have also been using Lil Gun in my 22K hornet and find that to be very clean burning also. YMMV however.

I think you can use BL-2 in the .308, and if you're using the Speer manual, the magnum primer issue is just Speer's quirk that they always say a Magnum Primer with a ball powder. I talked to Hodgdon this week about it, and that's what they told me. Feel free to call Hodgdon and talk to their techs. I've found them always helpful.

I've used W748 in my 308's. It meters very well in a powder measure as well as giving good velocity/accuracy. Not sure if it's a cleaner powder than the H335 or H322, but my rifle's barrels clean up easy enough after a range session.
