THR,

I need some information and advice on finding the best scope for a 17HMR in the $150.00 range.

I'm fairly experienced with my Leupold VXIII scopes that I have on my Remington 700PSS in .308 and Ruger 77 in .308. But I still have a lot to learn.

After looking for a rimfire target rifle, I found a nice Savage bolt action in 17HMR, Accutrigger, and heavy barrel. I'm interested in using this gun to refine basic skills and for low(er) cost fun at the 50-100 yard range on a more regular basis than I do with the .308s at 200-500 yds.

With the above in mind, what is the best scope to match the 17hmr that is in the $150.00 range? Also, if you could recommend mounts, I would appreciate that input as well.

Thank you for your time.

Warne Maxima rings, best there is IMO, bar none. The Savage rimfires already come with quality mounts fitted.

For the .17, I like the BSA Sweet 17 3-12x40 from SWFA for $90. http://www.riflescopes.com

My son and I use identical Marlin 17VS rifles. We have Simmons AETEC 3.8x12x44AO scopes on the mounted in BKL 261 mounts. the scopes are $140 locally.
