Hello all! I wanted to introduce myself to the community. I've been lurking for a while and am impressed with this community and the respectful way everyone can share ideas/opinions and keep it high road. I salute you all!
As for me, I'm a single 29 year old who recognizes his right to carry (got my CCW when I was 21 but didn't start carrying daily until a few months ago). I was fortunate to grow up in a very pro-rkba family and started shooting when I was 8 or so. Contrary to the anti's beliefs, I've had access to guns my whole life and have managed to avoid shooting myself or anyone else (it's amazing what educating your kids about guns can do huh?)
To keep this gun-related, I got a new pistol today. A Glock 23. My daily carry gun is a Springfield XD9SC but I miss my Glock 19 and decided to get a .40 S&W in the same frame size. So far I'm very impressed with it. I popped off a couple mags worth after I got it and I'm anxious to do some bench-rest shots tomorrow because this gun can outshoot me offhand! I don't remember my G19 being anywhere near this accurate.
The gun definately has some bite though. I'll try more rounds and do a comparison tomorrow but it seems to feel about the same as my Star PD (4" barrel .45 1911) recoil-wise. I didn't expect the recoil to be on par with my .45, but that said, I still like it :D I'm looking forward to shooting the bejeezus out of it and hopefully start shooting in the local IPSC matches.

Welcome aboard.

The G23 is a great gun. I love the compact Glocks, mainly the G19/23/32 frame.

And yes... please shoot the bejeezus outta that Glock :)

Thanks for the welcome! Does anyone here shoot IDPA, USPSA, any other acronym for competition shooting with the G23? I'll probably use a Taurus PT1911 when it comes out but I'd like to hear any stories on how the glock does in that realm.
There is a local place that does practical shooting and I'm planning on getting involved in that but i'd like to hear from people who already do it on the effectiveness (or ineffectivness) of the G23.
Thanks!

Try some 180 gr ammo to soften the recoil. 180 gr is where the .40 shines, anyway.

Great! When are you gonna start modding it?:D

Here are some thoughts:

Mepro's
3.5# connector to smooth the trigger up
Extended slide release
Extended slide lock for ease of takedown

The trigger is already lighter/smoother than my 19's was, I have a feeling it has the 3.5# connector already (or did Glock change the trigger between 2nd and 3rd gens?). Anybody know how to tell?
I like the idea of the extended slide release and I definitely want to get some high vis. sights like mepro.
