Gentlemen,
Winchester was to have done the Educational Order for the M1 Garand of 500 M1 Rifles with this BREAKDOWN:
Very IMPORTANT
Nov. 1940 200 rifles
Dec. 1940 300 rifles.
Then Winchester was to go onto the production run.
As you can see there was a major problem with Wichester production. Look at the date on this file. There is a lot more of files on.
ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS GENTLEMEN IS THAT IT COULD CHANGE WHEN THE SERIAL NUMBERS FALL
Winchester That are not good.

History is interesting.

Also, it's a lot cheaper to read eclancey's posts than it is to get access to the information he has available to him.

Hopefully we'll get the original letter posted back. The answer to the unnecessary question above is that lots of us care, and it's especially interesting when you look at all the other issues that Winchester had with the M1 rifle. While they may be nice from a collector's point of view, as shooters, I'd rather have an SA, especially if my life depended on it. The manufacturing/specs/parts operability and interchangeability issues with the Winchester rifles were pretty significant, especially earlier in production.
