What to buy in the next two years?...

Well, unless the Republicans do some serious repentance to their conservative base in the next two years, I'm afraid we'll all get to see another Clinton sworn in at the White House. The anti-gun agenda will kick into high gear, and we gunowners will have some hard choices to make and harder situations to face.
In the meantime, I'm wondering what kind of guns to invest in now to be ready for the coming darkness. Where should I be spending and what should I be stockpiling (besides reloading supplies & other necessities-- done that already)...
1. "Evil Black Rifles/Pistols"-- We all know these will be the first to get banned. AR's, AK's, FAL's, hi-cap Glocks, etc.-- get 'em while you can (with plenty of standard-cap mags, of course). And when Hillary & the BATF-Troop come ridin' into town to confiscate them-- well, we'll worry about that then...
2. Milsurps-- proven, reliable, inexpensive to buy and easy to maintain. Mausers, Enfields, Mosin-Nagants, Makarovs, and Walther P1's can get the job done. And while some may be in oddball calibers, finding ammo to stockpile is cheaper than the newer super-ultra-short-mags. And they didn't earn the name "battle rifle" for nothing....
3. "Sporting firearms"-- easier to stay under the radar with "Grandad's hunting rifle" or "those old cowboy sixguns", but no one can argue with their performance in a pinch. When the time comes, they can stand up and deliver with the best.
Opinions?....

I'm pretty much done buying modern guns. I have everything I need. I've recently discovered BP shooting, and it's a hoot! So, that's where I'll be spending my fun money in the near future.

Ammo, ammo, ammo, and if you have any money left, buy some ammunition.:D :D
Extra magazines for those guns that use them.
Spare parts for those guns that might need them. Firing pins, springs, stuff that can and does break on the model of gun(s) you have. If you have a bolt action, spare bolt and trigger mechanism. If you want to drop some serious change, get a spare scope & mount, and sight it in too.
IF you don't have one get a scattergun or two. I favor Remington 870s. <$300 and up. YMMV
Did I mention Ammo?

First and formost a Main Battle Rifle. No, not .223 7.62x commie etc, etc. A .308, 30-06 or other true rifle caliber. A M1A, FAL or a Garrand if you can afford it, or an Enfield or Mauser if money is tight.
If you have that covered get a .50 BMG, while you still can. Tick effing tock.

Buy yourself another AR or AK. Buy it one piece at a time to keep the monetary hit to a minimum. My friend back home buys his houses this way. He's a little unusual...

I am inclined to say military surplus rifles and ammunition. They are pretty unbeatable in terms of price and overall effectiveness. In the case of rifles like the Swiss K31s, they are cheap enough to buy several as spares. Otherwise some key spare parts would be a good investment for the rifles you already have.

Probably Other(s):
Given the way things are going, our OP is right. Either the conservatives pull together (and I'm talking about Conservatives, not the "Kennedy Republicans") or else we might see Hillary as #44.
I'd have to agree with Randy in Arizona as well, stock up on the ammo. I've been trying to add to the ammo stock along with items for the 72-hour kit. Hurricane season will be here before we know it.
And also Thin Black Line raises a good point. Our entire family has been trying to acquire as little new debt as possible and free up cash for all of the "just in case" items.

Funds permitting -
M1 Carbine, I have an "order" out for the new AO version. I want a good shooter at a reasonable price and that doesn't seem to be the case looking for USGI versions.
1903 Springfield, still at decent prices at the CMP
1917 Springfield (the Enfield pattern)
Maybe an 03A3.
And when I am "done" with US service rifles -
A K-31
An SMLE
I know Mosin's are plentiful and cheap but I just don't get excited about them.
But as said above Funds permitting.;)

Stripped or complete receivers. You can build them any way you wish even after a ban.

I vote Evil Black Rifles! Specifically and as funds allow:
1. Endangered/threatened species: well-built, high quality .50 BMG bolt action with the best scope you can afford to put on it. Real good chance these will be class III eventually and prices will be MUCH higher.
2. Firearms that liberals hate: start working your way down the list of guns on the assault weapons bans (now defunct federal list, current state lists, and new proposed lists). Start with some of the higher quality ones but be sure to get an AK-47 and an UZI because those are the ones that the antis seem to despise the most. If money is tight (due to the couple grand dropped on the 50 cal), buy receivers and build your own!
3. High capacity mags: at least 4 for each gun you own, largest capacity you can find.
4. AMMO
5. Reloading gear: after they get restrictions on our guns, they will target ammunition.

I admit to being a bit more vocal about my paranoia than most, but we may find ourselves needing EBR's (or M-1A's or M-1's, etc) along with a shotgun and decent pistol before too long. If you've already got them, buy ammo. .223, .45acp and 12ga weekly for me.

If I lived in Texas I would buy AR variants, 20 magazines, spare parts, and several thousand rounds of ammo.
In a few years attempts will be made to force anglos out of Texas because Texas will become the 'Tejas' in Aztlan.
Same recommendations for those who live in SoCal, AZ, NM.
The writing is on the wall. Texans are on the verge of losing everything.

The way the wind is blowing, I fear our legal right to purchase firearms may be compromised in the not to distant future.
You'll want everything (and make it quality for the long haul) you can afford, my friend.

Im buying Ammo and reloading equipment! Since the whole WOLF 7.62x39mm thing I have been super paranoid about ammo. Here today gone tomorow.
The next rifle I am going to buy is an M1 rifle from CMP and if the barrel is Ok I'll keep it a .30-06 untill I shoot it out. If It doesn't shoot that great I'll rebarrel it in .308. Eventually I am going to get an M1A but I'll use the M1 until I get afford an M1A.
I also need a good pistol in a common caliber because all I have now is a Makarov. So im probably going to get a Glock in 9mm and .45ACP.
Good luck everyone

Politically speaking, I'd have to say EBRs and/or .50s...because those are the ones the GFWs hyperventilate about the most.
Next, AK parts kits.
If FN comes out with a SCAR-H for civilians before the end of 2008, that'd be quite nice.
And for the guy who mentioned MBRs-don't forget the FN-49 and SVT-40...although prices on those seem to be going up faster than real estate in San Francisco.

I'm content with my hicap pistols so I'll prob get some more mags for both of them.
Buy a few stripped AR lowers, probably a couple more AKs, and maybe that dreaded "sniper" rifle.
Oh yeah magazines for everything.

Not being afraid to ask dumb questions, here's one I'd appreciate an answer to. It's pretty much topic related.
Where can I get magazines that hold "a bunch" of rounds for a Ruger Ranch Model 223..can you get them at the local gun store? If ordered off the net, do I need to go through a FFL third party?
Thanks In Advance

AK-47 and plenty of parts
.50 something
EBR's
as many full capacity mags as you think is realistic for your collection. I feel like a min of 3 per weapon is appropriate.

April 3, 2006, 02:07 PM
beaucoup ammo,
You can get them in quite a few places no need for an FFL; order them online and they show up on your doorstep.
Do your research first though the magazines for the Ruger can be hit and miss. I'm not sure which are considered good.

Great thought-provoking thread.I'd say buy mil-surps. EBRs were the first step in taking away a catagory of firearms that the sheeple in power fear. Next will be mil surps because they are only made for battle, and why would anyone need a battle rifle?
I'm less concerned about revolvers/pistols. They are secondary weapons that you can do without, if need be. A rifle and/or shotgun is a priority.

I'll shop around and get 'em on line! To the topic at hand, how about the new Ruger Super RedHawk "Alaskan" chambered for.454 Casull ammo?
Never know when a 7 ft. 300 lb. bear high on crack might come through the door. Good for .45 as well:O)

I voted "Other." As in unpapered (legally so) guns. This means ANYTHING that fires a modern cartridge, or one for which reloading dies and components are easily available. This mainly means buying used modern guns (including EBRs) so that uncle (or aunt, in the case of Shrillary) is none the wiser.
I'd add that one should buy for cash where possible, and also buy ammo, reloading dies and components unique to that gun (e.g. .357 bullets, if you have no other .38/.357 gun on paper) for cash. That way nothing can ever be traced back to you.
Choice #2 for me would be EBRs and magazines for them. These will be made illegal first, initially with a ban on new production and sales, later with a confiscation (by which time I will, of course, have either sold the guns or lost them in a freak boating accident).
Choice #3 is modern semi-auto handguns with >10 round capacity - the antis seem to have a real "thing" about those, and they get brought up in conversation and proposed laws more than even "assault rifles."
AMMO, AMMO, AMMO and COMPONENTS, COMPONENTS, COMPONENTS for you reloaders (and EVERY ONE OF US should reload - it ain't hard, it saves money and it makes your ammo more accurate. It also takes a bite out of those antis who want to ban ammo).

There really isn't anything in the modern or sporting catagories that I want anymore- I've gotten into the oldies but goodies- Last acquisition was a 1898 Krag- Next on the list is a Snyder Enfield, Martini Henry, and Springfield Trapdoor in no particular order- At least all of these are older than I am while not much else is :D

Ammo. Lots and lots of 5.56 and 7.62x39. And lots of hi-cap mags. Then an M4 knockoff.
I think my 1911's will be safe from the ban.

If you don't have an AR/AK platform, get one, along with atleast 1000 rounds.
If you do, get a decent quality rifle in 7.62NATO, 7.62x63, 7.62x54R, 7.92x57mm, etc. Scope it out, be able to hit a man-sized target at 500 yards.
Don't get a "sporting arm" unless it's in a modern magnum caliber.
If you're a really good rifle shot, get yourself a .50 BMG. It could easily be the sacrificial lamb offered up by the Republicans to try to sate Hillary's lust.
