...that is, the Socialist Republic of Maryland. Woo-hoo!

I've been off the net for a while, due to a minor calamity in my personal life. The story so far: Back in Lafayette-land, things were going poorly. I was broke, majorly underemployed, and unable to afford to continue/complete my education at Purdue (something I have been putting off for far too long now, but that's another story.) So I decided to kick it in the head and move back to the homestead, tempted by the promise of a more robust job market and a chance to live rent-free for a bit. Last weekend, I loaded up the Honda of Doom with all my worldly posessions (the fact that I can fit them all into an '87 Civic wagon should tell me something, but I'm not sure what) and hit the road, destination Maryland and all its glory.

I made a quick stop in Columbus to chill with the OSU team and throw some lead downrange. Great folks, and man, can they shoot. I need to start putting more practice time in.

The prodigal son returned at the Rhines homestead late Friday/early Saturday, and I've spent the past week getting settled in, doing some job-hunting, working on the garage, and contemplating my situation from the gun-nut prespective. Surprisingly, despite the anti-gun legal climate in Maryland there's a fair amount of shooting to be done. I took my neighibor Phil and his son (also Phil) out to the NRA Range on Friday, and a good time was had by all. Phil just recently bought his first gun, a CZ-75 Compact, and he's getting pretty good with it. He's also turning into quite the firearms enthusiast; he now wants a .50BMG rifle and an AR-15. Obviously he's been hanging out with my Dad too much. :D

Speaking of which, Dad is far happier than anyone should be about having his son move back in with him. And while I'm not exactly overjoyed about the situation, I am aware of certain advantages. Like the lathe, CNC vertical mill, and electric muffin furnace with closed-loop temperature controller in the basement. And the CAD/CAM box upstairs. I've got a few maybe-interesting ideas percolating in the back of my brain. Watch this spot... ;)

All in all, it's a mixed blessing. I loved Indiana, and I'll miss the place, but in Maryland I am, and I'll make the best of it.

So, where are the best places in the DC area to shoot?

- Chris

Write your delegate and tell them to oppose the proposed MD "assault weapon" ban, which will outlaw anything with a pistol grip & magazine. Write the governor and tell him to veto if the law if he has to.

hey Chris. Glad to hear you made it back to MD alive. Sorry I had to bail on you so early in the shooting last Friday, but my ride was leaving and I wasn't walking 125 miles home!

I have a link to the video that Timmy did while we were at the range. There is a nice clip of Fee shooting the floor with you CZ at the end.

Chris- Glad to hear that the move went smooth! I figured that the master of the house would be happy to have his first born back in the nest again. Hopefully this sojourn will allow you to do some more mad scientist work in the shop. Have fun and tell your folks I said hello!
