Those targets would make me smile - good shooting!

Do you think that wind conditions would have made much of an error with such relatively short distances? I rarely shoot out past 25yds and have often wondered...

I think the wind will affect the bullet, but not much at those short distances. What I was really talking about, was trying to hold the gun steady. The wind was gusting I would guess to around 35 mph, maybe more. It blew a can of Goex off a picnic table while I was out there.

There's nothing wrong with that shooting! I only WISH I could do that well one handed at that distance.

That's good shooting. Who made your Remington?

Wait a minute Steve. I didn't say anything about "one-handed". That was 2 hand, weaver stance, and I thought about sitting down in that wind.

Dave, It is a Pietta that I ordered from Cabelas. I'm very pleased with it. My next two BP revolvers will be an 1860 Army .44 and a 3rd model Dragoon.

I believe that he thought that it was one handed since you have off hand written on your target, I thought it was a one hand shot too.

" believe that he thought that it was one handed since you have off hand written on your target, I thought it was a one hand shot too."

Amazingly "off-hand has come to mean two handed more often than not. Confusing as heck and hard to write up. I end up either going ahead and saying "One Hand" or use "Duelist".

but either way, those groups represent good, solid shooting. Its not much fun shooting in the wind but wind or not, there's pleasure to be had turning in results like those.
I get the same disparity between 20 and 25 yard groups and isn't it amazing how much difference five little steps can make. It seems like the spread between 25 and 30 stays about the same.

Sorry, I've been shooting for 30 yrs and have never connected "off-hand" with "one-hand". My bad! Ya'll gimme a break. I'm just a good ole country boy.

Bad thing about my 25 yd groups is that they're about like your 40 yd "one-hand" groups and not much better than your 75 yd groups.:banghead: I'm optimistic I can do some better on a less windy day, how much better remains to be seen. I haven't tried past 30 yds yet, but I will.

Neither anymore does anybody else. You're in the mainstream.

I have always thought that off hand was shooting one handed. Either way, those are decent shots.

Next time I'll refer to it as "off-hands".:D

Way back when we still had to qualify with bulls-eye targets, the stance was with your strong side facing the target, your weak hand probably in your weak side pocket, and your strong hand waving around at the end of your arm with you trying to keep the sights in the same three or four feet the target was located in the middle of. That was called off hand, then. It may not have been used correctly then, I don't know, but dwave was 100 % right, I always thought it meant one handed. It really don't make much difference. That's still good shooting, eagle24.
I like to shoot a 25 yard group with a new pistol from solidest rest I can come up with to see how well the pistol does because I know from experience I can't be trusted to hold still.

Steve, I had planned to shoot from a bench this past weekend, but I didn't have much time Sunday evening. I have to use my portable bench where I shoot and I didn't want to fool with it Sunday. I'm looking forward to shooting from a bench to see what the capabilities of the gun are. I also want to shoot some groups at some different type targets. Normally, when I target shoot I use a 5 or 6 inch black spot target and POA is 6 O'Clock. I was having trouble feeling consistent with the small spot and the sights on the Remington.

Eagle24, you might want to look at www.targetz.com. They have lots and lots of free targets you can just print off. I need something bigger to sight on these days than that itty bitty dot you were shooting at. I modified my front sight so I could see it better, too.

Thanks Steve. Great Link! I just printed 100 Osama targets, could you send me some HP Ink Cartridges?:)

When I learned to shoot as a boy, Offhand meant shooting without any type of rest. You can shoot a rifle "offhand" as well as a pistol or revolver. There is offhand one-handed and offhand two-handed grip.:)

bs32, You sound kinda like me. When I was in high school I would throw a shotgun or rifle in the window rack of my pickup and head to school. My main objective for the day was to find a buddy that wanted to go hunting or shooting after school and that usually wasn't too hard. Boy, Those days are long gone! Guess a kid with a gun in plain sight in his vehicle, probably wouldn't make it through the day at school now. Anyway, we never worried much about terminology. We didn't have any gun forums then either. Come to think of it we didn't have computers either. Oh well, I'm always willing to learn and the folks here corrected me politely, so I'm a thankin em!

I'd sure like to, eagle24, but my wife has one of those Osama targets posted in her office with a real tight .380 auto group in his forehead. I'd rather stay on her good side.

Hey, I've got one of those osama targets in my office window too (six shots scattered between the head and chest) I couldn't decide whether I liked head shots or heart shots best, so I did 3 of each! :p
