I was skimming Wikipedia's page on Kalashnikov (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikhail_Kalashnikov) after a comment someone made perked my curiousity. I now know that Kalashnikov is a Doctor of Technical Sciences.

On their page I found the following picture of Kalashnikov and Eugene Stoner...
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/09/Mikhail_Kalashnikov_and_Eugene_Stoner.jpg
(Kalashnikov, left, and Stoner, right.)

Someone with a sense of humor took that one.

Thanks for posting that picture. I've seen that picture before but haven't been able to find it. It seems like I saw a picture of Mikhail Kalashnikov, Eugene Stoner, and Uzi Gal together before. It was about fifteen years ago before I was really into guns so I might be mistaken. I'm gonna have to look for it.

Well the gas system of the M-16 is unique, at least.

But i think its unique for a good (bad) reason.

Interesting picture.

There's also a similar picture of them together, dressed casually in a less formal moment, holding each other's rifles, in someone's backyard or some outdoor setting, in the current issue of... (drawing a blank :uhoh: )... I think it's Shotgun News.

That kalashnikov:ak-47 documentary on the history channel had a little segment on the 2 of them meeting and shooting one another's gun designs.

LOL kalashnikov almost look disgusted at the M16. Stoner looks like a happy camper.........

His look of disgust probably has more to do with the fact that since he made his weapon for the Communist's of Russia he has basically been penny less while Stoner got to live in the great nation of Capitalist pigs and has done quite well. Read an article awhile back that Mr. Kalishnikov lives in a little cramped apartment and drives an old little car similar to a Yugo, and gets by on a small pension.

They were together on the History Channel one time. I think it was on the history of the AK. Pretty crazy having both sides of the war together. They shot eachother's rifles as well.

Mr. Stoner resides in an even smaller cramped wood box. Worm food, as it were. (He may have been cremated, I don't know.) ;)

...which just goes to show you...even the designer of the second-most-popular assault rifle created wouldn't be caught dead in a Yugo... :D

Amazing how Kalashnikov's English improved so dramatically in only four sentences. ;)

Yeah Kalashnikov looks like his girlfriend just forced him to hold her yappy little poodle. He says "Aww it's adorable." But he's really thinking "Ick, get it away."

:D

Full disclosure: I own a SAR and an AR-15. If I had to head for the hills with only one, it would be the AR. But if I had my SAR shoved into my hands and told to run, I would not feel compelled to go back for the AR, either. The both work.

You should read Kalashnikov's autobiography some time. Interesting stuff! I see in Wikipedia they say, "Since 1949 Mikhail Kalashnikov has been living and working in his native town of Izhevsk." From the book, it seems they sent him there and didn't let him leave. Apparently they didn't let him leave Russia until like 1990-ish. It reminded me of The Last Emperor. Anyway, I don't think there's any reason to think that's a look of disgust.
